Preparations

Illustrations A and B
- Take 4 sensors and holders from the kit.
- Clean the surfaces of the sensors and holders using isopropanol as illustrated.
- Allow to dry.
- Apply a thin and even coat of activator on the cleaned surfaces and allow to dry for a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes before painting.
- Paint the sensors with the same color code as the car. Use paint recommended by Volvo. Paint max. two layers (1 layer base coat and 1 layer clear coat). Protect connections so that paint does not end up on the contact surfaces.

Caution! Too many layers of paint may result in partial or complete malfunction.

Steps 3-25 only apply to the V50

- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.

- Pry off the four external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate.
- Pry up one of the corners of the sill trim panel so that the two clips at that end release. Use a weatherstrip tool.
- Pull up the sill trim panel so the remaining six clips release. Remove the panel.

- Fold the seat cushion and backrest on the right-hand side of the rear seat forward.

- Grasp the upper edge of the right-hand side cushion. Pull the side cushion forward so that the clip on the reverse releases.
- Slide the side cushion up. Remove the side cushion.

- Remove the screw.
- Pull the panel upwards so that the four clips on the inside release. Remove the panel.

- Fold out the anchorage eyelets. Take a scriber with angled tip and insert it in the hole at the upper edge of the cover (1). Turn the scriber so that the tip grips the back of the cover. Pull the cover off.
- Remove the screws from the anchorage eyelets.
- Remove the screw (2).
- Pull off the side panel at the top so that the two clips at the rear/bottom of the side window and the clip at the bottom of the D-pillar release.
- Disconnect the connector for the 12V socket, if present.
- Lift out the side panel.

- Remove the four screws for the bumper. The screws are underneath the bumper and on the sides at the bottom of the tailgate opening.

- Remove the five screws (1) holding the bumper cover at the rear edge of the wing liner in the rear wheel arch. Repeat on the other side.

- Remove the end of the bumper cover. Grasp the bumper cover inside the wing liner. Pull carefully until the six catches at the top edge release. Repeat on the other side.

- Remove the bumper cover by pulling it straight backwards.

Note! It is recommended that two people lift down the bumper cover.

- Place the bumper cover on an underlay which will not damage the paint.

- Pre-drill holes in the middle of the drill markings on the inside of the bumper cover.

- Use hole tool part no. 9997345 to make holes in the bumper cover. Check that the markings (1) are opposite each other when using the tool.

- Make 4 holes in the bumper cover using the hole tool. Place the cutting part of the tool on the outside of the bumper cover.
- Screw the hole tool together until it has cut the hole in the bumper cover.
- Remove the plastic pieces from the hole tool and make the other holes in the sane way. Cut away the excess on the inside of the holes.

- Clean the top of the inside of the bumper cover using a mild soap solution.
- Clean an area around the holes that is slightly larger than the sensor holder. Use isopropanol. Allow to dry.
- Apply a thin and even coat of activator to the cleaned surfaces. Allow to dry for at least 10 minutes.

- Check which holders are to be placed where before installing. Each holder is marked and has its own specific place. The holders must be positioned as illustrated.
1. 1 Right outer
2. 2 Right inner
3. 3 Left inner
4. 4 Left outer

- Install the sensors in their holders.

- Clean the surfaces of the holders using isopropanol as illustrated.
- Allow to dry.
- Apply a thin and even coat of activator to the cleaned surfaces and allow to dry for at least 10 minutes.

- Remove the protective backing film from one side of the tape.
- Apply the tape (1) on the sensor holder.
- Remove the protective film from the pieces of tape on the sensor holder.
- Carry out the procedure above for the three remaining sensor holders.

Note! The tape adheres immediately.

- Apply a thin and even layer of adhesive (1) to the holders. Use glue gun part no. 9512950. The adhesive must be slightly above the level of the tape.

Note! The adhesive must not come into contact with the tape. The task of the tape is to secure the holders to the bumper cover until the adhesive has cured after approximately 24 hours.

- Install the sensor holders horizontal with the bumper cover as illustrated and secure them.

Caution! Incorrect positioning of the sensors may result in partial or complete malfunction.

- Connect the cable harness connectors to the sensors. A click should be heard on connection. The noise confirms that the catch has engaged. Take care when installing so that the holder does not come loose from the tape.

Note! The large gray connector must protrude from the right-hand side of the bumper cover.

- Press the cable harness into the catches on the 2 middle holders.

- Secure the cable harness with butyl where the arrows show.
