Navigation System - Hard Drive System
NO: 39 - 55DATE: 9-15-2006
MODEL: XC90
MODEL YEAR: 2007
SUBJECT: MMM+ (hard drive) Navigation system in 07 XC90. Map discs not needed
REFERENCE:
As of Model 2007, the XC 90 navigation system uses a hard drive based MMM (Multi Media Module), termed MMM+. The new MMM+ is only delivered in XC90 from MY 2007 and contains a factory loaded hard drive with software and Map data for the US.
The MMM+ works with a hard drive and does not need a DVD in it to work, though it looks much like an ordinary DVD player. The reason it contains a DVD player is so the customer may update the map data at a later time if they chose to.
For MY 2007 XC 90 equipped with a Navigation system, the DVD map discs are not supplied with the vehicle from the factory and are not needed for the system to operate.
NOTE: If the customer chooses to buy a new map disc update at a later stage and updates the map information in the MMM+, the map information will be stored in the hard drive. The update DVD however, must remain in the MMM for licensing reasons.
- Please note that an update may take up to 90 minutes.
- Be sure to use an appropriate vehicle power supply if the update is performed in the workshop.
- If the system is switched off while an update is in progress, the update will be resumed the next time the system is switched on
- The vehicle can be driven while the navigation system is being updated, but VNS cannot be used while the update is in progress.
Map Disc updates for the MMM+ system will carry a unique P/N.
Use of any other disc in this system may cause permanent damage to the MMM.
More information regarding updates is available in the owner's manual for the vehicle
