Rubber grommet, supplement to passenger compartment connector socket
NOTE: This supplement applies to cars not already equipped with a rubber grommet in the cowl panel. Carry out work in the order below:
Applies to cars with 5 cylinder petrol engines
- Carry out points 1-11 in Installation Instructions P/N 8688353
- Skip point 12
- Carry out points 13-15
- Skip point 16
- Carry out point 17
- Carry out points 1-9 in Installation Instructions P/N 30682612
- Continue with points 19-24 in Installation Instructions P/N 8688353.
Applies to diesel engine cars
- Carry out points 25-38 in Installation Instructions P/N 8688353

- Continue with points 46-61 in Installation Instructions P/N 8688353.
- Take a screwdriver and pry away the rubber plate covering the hole in the cowl panel.
- Locate the hole for the rubber grommet. Make a small cut in the insulation panel starting just above the hole, continue to the centre of the hole and then straight down.
- Push the carpet tabs to one side to access the hole in the cowl panel.
- Insert a small screwdriver through the insulation panel out into the engine compartment panel to make a hole for the rubber grommet.
- Take the rubber grommet from the kit and cut the top off the large rubber nipple.
- Grease the rubber grommet using low temperature grease (P/N 1161417-9)
- Insert the extension cable (from the kit) for the passenger compartment connector socket through the rubber grommet.
- Insert the cable with the rubber grommet for the passenger compartment connector socket through the hole in the cowl panel to the passenger compartment. Route all cable excess into the passenger compartment.
- Insert the O-ring (from the kit) on the cable for the passenger compartment connector socket.
- Position the O-ring in the groove in the rubber grommet so that it fills the space between the plate and the rear edge of the groove.
