AFFECTED VEHICLES:
DESCRIPTION:
Customers may complain of a knocking noise from the steering gear.
SERVICE:
First, carry out basic analysis to understand where the noise is coming from. If possible, use the Chassis Ears toolkit.
If the noise is confirmed to be coming from within the steering gear, replace the steering gear according to VIDA > INFORMATION > REPAIR>Removal, replacement, and installation > Suspension and steering > Steering gear > steering gear.
Note, there is a new design of the input shaft from the steering column and this will not create the noise. The upper bearing is a floating bearing and a play of 0.6 0.7mm (.024" - .028") is normal when the
car is not running.
