Measuring Valve Clearance

Preparatory work

Removal
Disconnect the battery ground cable. Battery Disconnecting
Remove the valve covers. Refer to: Valve cover, B8444S Service and Repair.

Measuring

Measuring valve clearance

Note! Measurements must only be taken on a cold engine. Suitable temperature is approximately 20 °C/68°F.

Caution! Only turn the crankshaft in normal rotational direction (clockwise).




Turn the crankshaft until the cam lobe is 180 ° to the valve lifter.
Measure the valve clearance between the camshaft and the valve lifter. Use: 999 5752 Feeler gauge 999 5752 Feeler Gauge.Note the measurement.










Repeat the procedure for the other camshaft lobes. Note the measurements.

Installation

Installing the valve covers
Install the valve covers. Refer to: Valve cover, B8444S Service and Repair.
