Adjusting Valve Clearance

Valve clearance

Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.

Removal

Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Removal and Replacement.

Check the valve clearance. Refer to: Valve clearance, B8444S Measuring Valve Clearance Valve clearance.

Remove the VVT units. Refer to: VVT unit, B8444S Service and Repair.

Adjusting the valve clearance
Remove the valve tappet. Read off the thickness from the underside.

Calculate the required thickness of the valve lifter to be used:the thickness of the existing valve lifter + the measured valve clearance = required valve clearance.
The number on the valve lifter corresponds to the thickness of the valve lifter.

Installation

Install the correct valve tappet.

Install the VVT units. Refer to: VVT unit, B8444S Service and Repair.

Check the valve clearance. Refer to: Valve clearance, B8444S Measuring Valve Clearance Valve clearance.

Connect the negative battery lead. Battery Removal and Replacement.
