Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair






Electromagnetic clutch

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Removing the compressor

Warning! Follow the safety instructions for work on the air conditioning system. Refer to: Refrigerant. Refrigerant

Read the instructions covering slow and fast leaks. Refer to: AC-system, oil, refilling. AC-System, Oil, Refilling

Caution! Use a new O-ring.

Note! Always plug the pipes and connections when working on the climate control system.

Remove the compressor. Service and Repair

Removal

Removing the drive plate




Slacken off the screw for the clutch plate. Use an anvil block: 999 7193 Counterhold 999 7193 Counterhold.
Remove the drive plate by pulling it straight out.

Note! Ensure that the shims between the compressor shaft and the drive plate do not come off.

Removing the pulley





Remove:
- the snap ring
- the pulley.

Removing the magnetic coil and cable

Note! Note the position of the solenoid coil cable in relation to the compressor housing.





Remove:
- the snap ring for the solenoid coil. See the illustration
- the solenoid coil
- the screw for the electrical cable for the solenoid coil
- the connector for the solenoid coil.

Installation

Installing the solenoid coil and the electrical cable





Install:
- the solenoid coil as noted previously
- the snap ring for the solenoid coil. See the illustration
- the connector for the solenoid coil
- the screw for the electrical cable for the solenoid coil.

Installing the pulley





Install:
- a new pulley
- the snap ring for the pulley.

Installing the drive plate




Use an anvil block: 999 7193 Counterhold 999 7193 Counterhold and install the clutch plate using the screw. Tighten. Service and Repair

Finishing

Checking clearance
Use a feeler gauge. Check the clearance between the turntable and the pulley. Measure at several points around the turntable.
The clearance must be between 0.3 and 0.6 mm. Replace the shims if the clearance does not lie within the given values.

Installing the compressor
Install the compressor. Service and Repair
Check the function.
