Transmission Replacement, Post-Checking

Transmission replacement, post-checking

Final check

Checks after replacing gearbox
Top up and check coolant level before and during the road test.
Check the oil level. See: Oil level, checking Checking Oil Level.

Note! If it is a new or exchange gearbox, it will be filled with fluid plus an extra amount from the manufacturers. The extra amount is to compensate for the oil cooler. The fluid level must always be checked, however.

Road testing the vehicle
Use the road test schedule according to: Test drive schedule, description Test Drive Schedule, Description.

Note! Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored during the test drive.

Resetting counter

Reset:
- adaptation.
- counter for changing transmission fluid. Resetting the Transmission Fluid Change Counter

Returning the gearbox (only when changing complete gearbox)
Return the old gearbox.
For a correct fault analysis, information on all symptoms that were the cause of the gearbox replacement must be known. Note this information on the test report, see: Diagnostics/check list Diagnostics Check List.
Make sure the report is completed correctly and contains all the necessary information including customer remarks.
Make a copy of the report and insert it in the plastic pocket behind the torque converter so that it is not mislaid. Send also a copy to the importer and retain one copy for your own use.
