Power Steering Line/Hose: Service and Repair






Return hose, replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Removal

Preparatory work
Remove the battery lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.
Install lock grip pliers on the feeder hose for the power steering pump.

Removing the sub-frame
Remove the sub-frame. See: Replacing the front sub-frame Front Subframe.

Removing the return hose





Remove:
- the clamp for the oil cooler return hose
- the return hose.

Removing the return pipe




Position a container under the steering gear.

Remove:
- the return line from the valve housing, drain the fluid
- disconnect the line from the clips on the steering gear
- the pipe.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the return hose




Install the return hose for the oil cooler, use new clamp.

Installing return pipe





Install:
- the pipe in the valve housing
- screw (M8) on the valve housing
- the line in the clips on the steering gear.

Note! Use a new O-ring.

Installing the sub-frame
Install the sub-frame. See: Replacing the front sub-frame Front Subframe.

Finishing




Connect the battery lead.

Warning! Avoid skin contact with the oil.

Note! Use Volvo power steering fluid, P/N 1161529 to ensure the correct oil quality.

Fill the servo reservoir with oil. Bleed the system.
Repeatedly turn the steering wheel to full lock. Top up the oil if necessary.
Lower the vehicle.
Apply the parking brake. Start the engine.
- A Turn the steering wheel slowly to the right, keep it at the limit position for two seconds.
- B Turn the steering wheel slowly to the left, keep it at the limit position for two seconds.
Repeat steps A and B ten times.
