Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information
Condition
The gear shift position sensor is integrated into the transmission control module (TCM) and provides information about the selected gear. Inside the transmission control module (TCM) are two hall sensors which have the task of detecting when the gear selector lever is in position. For diagnostics, there is a parallel hall sensor (2) which gives an inverted signal characteristic, so that the sum of the signal voltages from the hall sensors (1) and (2) is constant. The signal voltage (0 and 5 V) corresponds to the present position of gear selector lever.
If the transmission control module (TCM) registers an incorrect signal from Hall sensor 2, the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated.
The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the ignition is on.
Substitute value
- Adaption is blocked.
- The transmission control module (TCM) uses the last selected gear position.
Possible source
- Incorrect adjustment of gear position sensor.
- Internal fault in transmission control module (TCM).
Fault symptom[s]
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit.
- General warning lamp lit
- The engine does not start.
