Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information
Condition
The gear position sensor is integrated in the transmission control module (TCM) and provides information on the selected gear position. Internally in the transmission control module (TCM) there are two Hall sensors used to detect whether the gear selector is in position. For diagnostic purposes, there is a parallel Hall sensor (2) that gives a reverse signal characteristic, so that the sum of the signal voltages from the Hall sensors (1) and (2) is constant. The signal voltage (0V and 5V) corresponds to the current gear lever position. If the transmission control module (TCM) registers an incorrect signal, the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated.
The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the ignition is on.
Substitute value
- Auxiliary program Emergency mode 1 in the transmission control module (TCM) has started.
Hint: Emergency mode in case of malfunction Emergency Mode In Case of Malfunction
Possible source
- Incorrect adjustment of gear position sensor.
- Internal fault in transmission control module (TCM).
Fault symptom[s]
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit.
- General warning lamp lit
- The engine does not start.
