Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information

Condition

To prevent the engine being started when a gear is engaged, which could cause the vehicle to move immediately it is started, the vehicle is equipped with a starter inhibitor function. Integrated in the transmission control module (TCM) are two Hall sensors used to detect whether the gear selector is in position. Starting is allowed in gear positions P or N. The transmission control module (TCM) has a signal lead connected directly to the engine control module (ECM). This signal informs the engine control module (ECM) whether or not it is possible to start the engine. When the voltage level of the signal lead is grounded, it will be possible to start. If the transmission control module (TCM) detects that the signal is constantly grounded, the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated.
The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the ignition is on.

Substitute value
- Nothing.

Possible source
- Contact resistance in the terminals
- The signal cable is short-circuited to ground.
- Internal fault in transmission control module (TCM).

Fault symptom[s]
- The engine does not start.
- Engine starts with gear selector in positions R and D.
