Condition




The transmission control module (TCM) checks the lockup solenoid function by comparing the speed signal from the gearbox speed sensor with the rpm signal from the gearbox rpm sensor. When lockup is engaged, the signals should "show" the same calculated rpm. The transmission control module (TCM) also compares the rpm from the gearbox speed sensor with the engine rpm. The rpm should then be greater or lower than the gearbox output rpm or speed depending on the gear that is selected. If the control module registers that the lock-up function is engaged constantly or if the transmission is jerky when lock-up is engaged, the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when driving normally.

- Adaptation function is blocked.
- Lock-up function is blocked.
- Slip lock-up function is blocked.

Possible source
- Contact resistance in the terminals
- Open circuit in lead for control signal or signal ground.
- Solenoid not working.
- Internal fault in transmission control module (TCM).

Fault symptom[s]
- General warning lamp lit
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit.
- Harsh gear changing
- No gear changing.
- Abnormally slipping gears.
