Fault-Tracing

Fault-tracing TCM-0043

Checking the oil temperature sensor

Note! During this fault-tracing, the transmission and the oil should be at room temperature from the start in order to check the sensor function.

- Ignition on
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.
- Read the oil temperature.
Let the transmission heat up. Check that the oil temperature increases and is within the permitted range. Compare with the external temperature of the transmission.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is located inside the control system and may be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

If the temperature is outside the permitted range it means that the fault is permanent.
If the temperature is within the permitted range, it means that the fault was present previously but is not active now. The fault is intermittent.

-------------------------------------------------

Checking cable and component

- Ignition off
- Expose the control system of the transmission.
Check the cable between the transmission's connector #B7 and the temperature sensor as well as the transmission's connector #B8 and the temperature sensor for short-circuiting to ground. Also check the cables for a short-circuit to each other.

Hint: Check the temperature. See: Checking internal components of the transmission Checking Internal Components of the Transmission

Remedy as necessary.

Continue - Resetting the oil counter

Resetting the oil counter

Resetting the counter for Transmission oil, change

Resetting the counter for Transmission oil, change

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for the oil's quality that counts up when the transmission is exposed to very heavy loads or high ambient temperature. If the counter is not reset when draining/changing oil, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code may be generated under incorrect conditions. That is why it is important that the counter for Transmission oil, change is reset.

Note! This only applies when the transmission oil is changed and when the oil is changed during repairs to the transmission's temperature sensor.

- Ignition on
Activate reset of the counter by clicking on the symbol for VCT2000.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.
- Read the oil temperature for the transmission control module (TCM).
Check that oil temperature is within the permitted range. Compare with the external temperature of the transmission.
