Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information
Condition
The oil temperature sensor gives the transmission control module (TCM) a signal used for the temperature controlled lock-up function and for engaging the high-temperature program. The sensor has a temperature sensitive resistor with negative temperature coefficient (NTC). The signal (voltage) drops as the oil temperature increases.
If the transmission is exerted to very hard strain for long periods, the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated. The time it takes to generate the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is greatly temperature dependent and only a fluid temperature above 100 °C will have an impact on the quality of the transmission fluid.
The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the ignition is on.
Substitute value
- Transmission control module (TCM) assumes an oil temperature of 80 °C.
Possible source
- The signal cable is short-circuited to ground.
- Transmission fluid temperature sensor not working.
- The transmission has been exerted to very hard strain and high ambient temperatures.
Fault symptom[s]
