Type approval of the tow hitch is in the table on the second page.
Note! A new lining mat is required for cars manufactured up to week 13, 2000. The lining mats are ordered separately for these cars (P/N 8625515).
Note! It is recommended that the operations for certain points are carried out by two people.
- Turn the ignition key to position 0. Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.
Note! Wait at least five minutes before disassembling the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.
- Connect the connector for the cable harness for the tow hitch according to the appropriate Installation Instructions.
- Fold up and remove the floor hatch (1) and the storage compartment (2)
- Remove the side panel (3).
Remove:
- the two nuts from the front edge of the battery holder and the screw from the rear edge
- the battery holder
- the cover
- the battery negative lead
- the battery, or move the battery to facilitate access.
Applies only if the car has a lining mat with four perforations
- Remove the perforated sections (3) from the lining mat.
Applies only if the car has a lining mat with one perforation
- Remove the lining mat.
Applies to all cars
- Remove the nuts (1) to remove the bumper
- Separate the connector (2) for the antenna.
- Raise the car.
Illustration A only applies to cars with mudguards
- Remove the rear wheels
- Carefully drill out the rivets for the mudguards. Use a - 6 mm (1/4") diameter drill bit. Remove the mudguards.
Illustration B applies to all cars
- Carefully drill out the rivets (2) underneath the bumper on both sides. Use a -6 mm (1/4") diameter drill bit
- Remove the screw (1) on both sides.
Note! Do not damage any of the plastic components.
Only applies if the car has clips
- Remove the clips (1) at the bottom of the bumper cover (press in the centre of the clips until they click.
Note! The clips will be reused.
Applies to all cars
- Pull the bumper backwards slightly. Bend out the sides (2) so that they detach from the mounting (3). Then pull the bumper backwards until it detaches completely
- Place the bumper on a clean underlay that will not damage the paint.
Only applies if the car is equipped with mouldings
- Carefully remove the moulding (4) from the expander clips.
Remove:
- the rivet (1) on the bracket (2) for the silencer. Use cutting nippers
- the screws (3) on the bracket
- the bracket by detaching the rubber mountings (4). The bracket will not be used again.
- Remove the screws (1). Remove the bracket (2). The bracket will not be used again.
- Install masking tape on the outside of the bumper to avoid damage from the saw. Leave the masking tape in place throughout the installation procedure
- Cut out along inside of flange (1), on the underside of the bumper so that the flange stays in place in the bumper
- After cutting, even off the edges using a file.
Only applies if the car is equipped with mouldings
- Also cut out the moulding following the instructions (2).
- Remove the tow hitch. First turn the handle (1) clockwise until a click is heard and the pin (2) is in the outer position. Pull the tow hitch straight back.
Note! The shaft is greased

- Clean away any underseal and dirt from the surfaces between the tow hitch and the bodywork.
Illustration B is carried out on both sides. The right side is displayed
- Install the screws (7, 8) from underneath the brackets (4:1, 5:1, 9:1), including the spacers (6). Tighten by hand. The arrows on the brackets (4:1, 5:1, 9:1) must point towards the centre of the car.

- Install the heat deflector plate (14) with the screw (12). See point E.

- Loosely screw the heat deflector plate into place on the member (2) using the screw (1)
- Bend the heat deflector plate using a screwdriver
- Fully screw in the screw.

- Reinstall the rubber mounting (13) for the silencer. Use soap to facilitate installation.

- Insert the member (1) between the brackets (4, 5). Centre it around the holes
- Install the screws (2) and the washers (16) from the underneath of the bracket (5). Install the nuts (3) from above the bracket. Do not tighten.

- Check that the distance between the member (1) and the spare wheel well is 10 mm. Centre the tow hitch to the car.
Illustration B applies to both sides. The right-hand side is shown (the holes are then on the left-hand side)
- Tighten the screws (7). Tighten to 79 Nm (59 lbf.ft)
- Tighten the screws (8). Tighten to 120 Nm (90 lbf.ft).

- Tighten the screws (2) Tighten the nut (3). Tighten to 136 Nm (102 lbf.ft).
- Wait at least five minutes, so that the joint has time to set. Then tighten the screws (8) on both sides, a quarter turn (90°). See illustration A.
Note! Torque tightened screws that have been removed may not be reused.
- Underseal the car.
Applies only to Sweden
- Carry out this operation only after state road worthiness inspection.
Only applies if the car is equipped with mouldings
- Reinstall the mouldings (3) on the expander clips. Press the mouldings into place.
Applies to all cars
- Reinstall the guide lugs (4) and the clips (5) if they have been removed
- Reinstall the bumper by pressing it forwards. Ensure that the four screws that are protruding from the bumper align in the holes in the car
- Before the bumper is completely installed: Slide the top edge (1) into the grooves. Then slide in the bumper fully
- Check that the guide lug (4) and clip (5) are centred with the hole (2) in the fender liner.
- Tighten the screw (1) on both sides
- Rivet (2) the bumper into place as illustrated.
Only applies if the car is equipped with clips and mouldings
- Reinstall the clips underneath the bumper. This is to lower the bumper towards the mouldings. Ensure that the clip locks are in the normal position.
Applies to all cars
- Reinstall the nuts. Tighten the nuts. Tighten to 18 Nm (13.5 lbf.ft.)
- Connect the antenna connector.
Applies to cars with mudguards
- Rivet the mudguards
- Reinstall the wheels. Tighten the nuts crosswise. Tighten to 140 Nm (104 lbf.ft.).
Applies only if the car has a lining mat with four perforations
- Install the rubber tabs (from the kit) as follows:
Align the rubber tabs (1, 4) edge to edge with the lining mat
Compress the rubber tab (2) slightly to align in the cut out
Align the rubber tab (3) so that the lower edge is positioned edge to edge with the lining mat. Cut off the section protruding over the lining mat. (Do not cut off an excessive amount).
Applies only if the car has a lining mat with one perforation
- Install a new lining mat.
- If necessary, cut away the area (1) around the screw heads so that the screws are accessible.
- Check the function of the detachable tow hitch.

- Turn the handle (1) clockwise until a click is heard and the indicator pin (2) is in the outer position
- Install the tow hitch by pressing the tow hitch onto the connection stud (3).
Illustration B applies to locking the tow hitch
- Check that the indicator pin (2) is in the inner position and that the handle (1) is horizontal
- Turn the lock cylinder (3) to the position illustrated. The plastic cover (4) protects the lock cylinder.
Illustration A applies to all cars without Bi-fuel
- Remove the tow hitch and place it in the protective bag
- Place the tow hitch in the spare wheel as illustrated
- Lower the tow hitch so that the handle aligns with one of the holes in the rim
- Thread the strap into the two closest holes in the rim. Route the strap around the tow hitch, between the handle and the tow hitch itself
- Insert the strap into the tensioner. Tighten the tensioner until the tow hitch is secured.
Illustration B only applies to Bi-fuel cars
Applies to the first time
- Remove the cover on the storage compartment by the battery
- Grasp the front edge of the lower section of the compartment. Pull the compartment backwards. At the same time lift the front edge upwards. Lift up the entire compartment
- Thread the strap from the tow hitch kit through the groove underneath and up to the top
- Reinstall the compartment.
Proceed as follows
- Remove the tow hitch and place it in the protective bag
- Position the tow hitch to the left in the compartment. Align the tow hitch
- Tighten the tow hitch properly using the strap. Ensure that the hitch is secure
- Reinstall the cover on the compartment. Check that it is secure.
- Install the inner section (2) on the connection stud (3). Align the protective cover (1) with the inner section (2) towards the bumper.
The hole (4) is for the safety cable.
- Install the supplied decal (1) underneath the floor hatch. Also use staples to secure.
- Connect the e cable harness for the tow hitch according to the appropriate Installation Instructions.
- Turn the ignition key to position II.
Reinstall:
- the battery negative lead
- the battery cover and holder
- the side panel
- the storage cover and floor hatch.
- Remove the masking tape from the bumper.
