Checking the alarm sound

Checking the alarm sound
Non-functioning alarm sound means that the alarm is silent.
Cause of fault:
- Open-circuit or loose connection between the alarm control module and horn
- Horn faulty.

Hint: Check that the horn functions by pressing the steering wheel horn switch.

Checking the horn connection
Check the alarm control module connectors. Check for loose connections, contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the cable terminals in the female and male sections of the connector. The cable terminals must not be damaged or pressed back.
Check the cable between the alarm control module and the horn. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.




- Press the alarm button below the steering column cover.
Check that the headlamps and turn signal lamps flash.
Check that a pulsing sound is heard from the horn.
The reset button is located in the cowl in the engine compartment.
The turn signal lamps and headlamps should stop flashing and the horn should fall silent.
