Bevel Gear






Bevel gear

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information is always correct.

Preparatory work

Removing the drive shaft
Remove right drive shaft. See: Drive shaft right Drive Shaft Right.

Removal

Removal of charge air pipe




Remove the charge air pipe under the engine.

Removing the torque rod




Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring at the tab on the torque rod mounting in the transmission.
Slacken off the 4 screws. Remove the torque rod from the engine.

Removing the propeller shaft CV joint
Remove the front propeller shaft CV joint from the bevel gear. See: Propeller shaft Propeller Shaft.

Removing bracket




Slacken off the 4 screws. Remove the bracket between the bevel gear and the cylinder block.

Removing the heat shield





Warning! The heat shield has sharp edges. There is a risk of injury.

Slacken off the 3 screws. Remove heat shield from the bevel gear.

Removing the upper screws for the bevel gear




Remove the 4 upper screws for the bevel gear.

Removing bevel gear




Remove the last screw for the bevel gear. Remove the bevel gear.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications. Tightening Torque

Note! Before installing the bevel gear, lubricate the spline joint between the transmission and the bevel gear using appropriate grease.

Installing the bevel gear





Make sure the joint between the bevel gear connecting sleeve and the sealing ring on the gearbox is not leaking and that the sleeve is otherwise free from damage and is in the correct position.

Make sure that the contact faces on the transmission and bevel gear are clean.
Install the angle gear. Use new screws. Tighten the screws, 5 x M10, alternately to light contact. Tighten.

Installing the heat shield





Warning! The heat shield has sharp edges. There is a risk of injury.

Install the heat shield on the bevel gear, 3 M8 screws. Tighten.

Installing the bracket




Install the bracket on the cylinder block. Use 2 M8 screws. Install the bracket on the chain housing. Use 2 M10 screws.
First tighten the screws for the bracket/cylinder block so that the bracket can moves slightly.
Then lightly tighten the screws for the bracket / chain housing alternately.
Then tighten all the screws.

Installing the propeller shaft CV joint
Install the front propeller shaft CV joint on the bevel gear. See: Propeller shaft Propeller Shaft.

Installing the engine stabilizer brace





Install:
- the 3 M10 screws and 1 M12 screw for the torque rod to the engine. Tighten
- the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring on the tab on the torque rod mounting in the transmission.

Installing the charge air pipe




Install the charge air pipe under the engine. Use 3 M7 screws. Tighten.

Finishing

Installing the drive shaft
Install the right-hand drive shaft. See: Drive shaft right Drive Shaft Right.
