Parking assistance, rear

Note! This accessory requires software unique to the car.

Note! During installation the underlying surface must maintain a temperature of at least +15° (60° F).

Note!
- Steps 2-7 only apply to the V50
- Steps 8-11 only apply to the S40




- Turn the ignition key to position 0.
- Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.

Note! Wait at least one minute before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.

- Clean the bumper. Use a mild soap solution.

Preparations in the cargo compartment

Applies to the V50




- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.




- Pry off the four external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate.
- Pry up one of the corners of the sill trim panel so that the two clips at that end release. Use a weatherstrip tool.
- Pull up the sill trim panel so the remaining six clips release. Remove the panel.
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers the right-hand side panel in the boot opening.




- Fold the seat cushion and backrest on the right-hand side of the rear seat forward.




- Grip the upper edge of the right-hand side cushion and pull forward so that the two catches (A) release.
- Move your hand to the side of the side cushion and release the catch located in the lower edge.
- Slide the side cushion upwards.
- Remove the screw at the rear edge of the panel at the front/top of the right-hand side panel (B).
- Pull the panel upwards so that the four clips on the inside release.




- Fold out the load securing eyelets on the right-hand side panel. Insert a scriber with an angled tip into the holes in the top of the covers (1). Turn the scriber so that the tip engages the reverse of the covers. Pull the covers off.
- Remove the screws in the load securing eyelets.
- Remove the screw (2) at the front/top edge of the side panel.
- Pull off the side panel at the top so that the two clips at the rear/bottom of the side window and the clip at the bottom of the D-post release. If the car has a 12V socket in the side panel, disconnect the connector from this socket.
- Lift out the side panel.




- Remove the insulation panel on the right-hand side. The insulation panel is secured by two clips behind the rear wheel arch.

Applies to the S40




- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.




- Remove the upper floor supports from the car (if applicable).




- Unscrew the two external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate.
- Pry up one of the corners of the sill trim panel using a weatherstrip tool so that the two clips at that end release.
- Pull up the sill trim panel at the other end so that the remaining two clips release. Remove the sill trim panel.
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers the right-hand side panel in the boot opening.




- Remove the four clips that hold the right-hand side panel in the bodywork.
- Unhook the side panel from the mounting (2) on the underneath of the parcel shelf.
- Unhook the side panel from the rear load securing eyelet. Lift out the side panel.

Preparations, bumper cover

Applies to the S40 and V50




- Raise the car.
- Remove the four screws (1) for the bumper. The screws are underneath the bumper and on the sides at the bottom of the tailgate opening.




- Remove the five screws (1) holding the bumper cover at the rear edge of the wing liner in the rear wheel arch. Repeat on the other side.

- Remove the end of the bumper cover. Grasp the bumper cover inside the wing liner. Pull carefully until the six catches at the top edge release. Repeat on the other side.

- Remove the bumper cover by pulling it straight back. If there is a cable routed to the antenna for keyless cars: Detach the connectors at both ends and remove them.

Note! It is recommended that two people lift down the bumper cover.

- Place the bumper cover on an underlay which will not damage the paint.




- Install the backing paper evenly distributed over the bumper.

Note! The backing paper is used to protect the paint.




- Pre-drill the holes using a -3 mm (1/8") bit, in the drill marking centres on the inside of the bumper cover.
- Drill out the holes from the inside using a -8 mm (5/16") bit.

- Turn the bumper cover and drill out the holes from the outside using a -27.5 mm special bit, P/N 9997114.




- File out the small recesses without damaging the paint.

Note! Do not file more than necessary, as the edges of the holes can otherwise be visible outside the covering edge on the sensor holders.

- File clean the edges after drilling if necessary. The hole may need adjustment with a file so that the sensor holder makes a good connection to the bumper cover.
- Wash out the bumper cover. Use a mild soap solution.




- Take the sensors and associated holders from the kit.
- Clean the sensors and holders with a wet cloth, P/N 9192678, and leave to dry.
- Apply activator, P/N 8637076, in a thin layer over the sensors.

Note! Only paint the parts that are visible after installation.

Applies to cars without towbar

- Remove the rubber grommet from the hole in the car, it shall not be re-used.

Illustration B applies to keyless cars




- For keyless cars, the cable (1) must be detached at both ends and removed. It shall not be re-used. The cable is internally connected to a grey connector below the right-hand rear lamp.

- Take the cable harness with rubber grommet from the kit. The cable harness has a taped rubber grommet with integrated cable for keyless cars.
- Pull in the end with four connectors through the hole in the car and fit the rubber grommet.
- Fit the connector (1) for the sensors in the designated location below the rear lamp. Make sure that the clip engages properly.

- Fit the cable with the clips.
- Applies to keyless cars: Attach the connector to the antenna, Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM).
- Applies to others: Attach the connector with a tie strap so that it does not rattle.

Applies to cars with towbar

- Detach the towbar wiring connector from the Trailer Module (TRM).
- Detach all cables from the connector and pull the cables out through the rubber grommet. The number of cables may vary depending on the towbar wiring used.
- Remove the rubber grommet, it shall not be re-used.

Illustration B applies to keyless cars




- If the car is keyless then the cable (1) must be detached at both ends and removed. It shall not be re-used. The cable is internally connected to a grey connector below the right-hand rear lamp.

- Pull in the end with four connectors through the hole in the car and fit the rubber grommet.
- Fit the connector (1) for the sensors in the designated location below the rear lamp. Make sure that the clip engages properly.

- Cut off the free rubber spout on the cable harness rubber grommet.
- Thread through the towbar wiring cables. Lubricate the coarse cable with something not harmful to the rubber grommet and pull the cable through the hole.

- Fit the cable with the clips.
- Applies to keyless cars: Attach the connector to the antenna, Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM).
- Applies to others: Attach the connector with a tie strap so that it does not rattle.

Applies to 7-pin towbar wiring




- Refit the ends of the cables in the connector in as follows:





- The blue cable is connected to positions 2, 6 or 8, depending on which function is required:
- 2 = Charging
- 6 = Reversing lamp
- 8 = Fog lamps
- Connect by pressing in the connector catch.

Applies to 13-pin towbar wiring




- Refit the ends of the cables in the connector in as follows:





- Connect by pressing in the connector catch.

Applies to 4-pin towbar wiring




- Refit the ends of the cables in the connector in as follows:





- Connect by pressing in the connector catch.

Installing the sensors





Note! Take care that the activator has dried (at least 10 minutes) before painting

- Position the sensors so that you can paint the sensor surface without them overturning. Spray the sensors with the same colour as the car. Use paint recommended by Volvo. Apply a maximum of two layers of paint.

Caution! Too many layers of paint may result in partial or complete malfunction.




- Fit the sensor holders in the filed out recesses on the outside of the bumper cover. Press them in so that the holders' hooks engage in the bumper cover.

Note! All the holders are unique in terms of their shape and only fit in one of the holes. Check that the hole is correct before fitting the holder and pressing it in.




- Fit the sensor cable in the clip brackets.
- Fit the sensors in the sensor holders so that they fasten securely.
- Adjust the sensor holders precisely so that the connectors are horizontal.
- Connect the sensor cable connectors to the sensors. The sensor cable's loose connector must now come out from the right-hand side of the bumper cover.




- Lift up the bumper cover into position. Plug the sensors' connector into the connector secured below the right-hand rear lamp.
- Refit the bumper cover by following the instructions for removal in steps 12-14 in reverse order.

Installation of the Parking Assistance Module (PAM)




- Fit the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) on the right-hand side of the cargo compartment beside the rear lamp.

Applies to the V50
- Screw the control module in with the existing screws with plastic nuts (1) from the kit.

Applies to the S40
- Apply small pieces of butyl tape by the holes where the control module is to be installed. This will prevent rattling.
- Secure the control module in the existing holes. Use the clips (2) from the kit.

Connecting to the Parking Assistance Module (PAM)

Connect:
- black connector to the control module's upper port.
- brown connector to the control module's lower port.
- green connector to the car's CAN cable, which has a green connector clamped in the front edge of the large hole in the side of the body.

Applies to cars with towbar and/or Accessory Electronic Module (AEM)
- The existing green connector is connected to the Trailer Module (TRM) / Accessory Electronic Module (AEM).
Detach the connector to the control module and connect the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) cable's female contact.

Note! It is important that the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) is the first module connected.

- Detach the green male contact (1) which is taped at the rubber grommet and connect it to the Trailer Module (TRM) / Accessory Electronic Module (AEM).

Note! Take care to connect the cables correctly, and not in a loop.

If the car is keyless:
- Plug the grey connector into the corresponding grey connector.

Note! Ensure that all the connectors click into place and are properly secured.

Finishing work

- Plug the towbar wiring connector into the Trailer Module (TRM).
- Gather together any excess cables. Clamp the cables securely where they cannot rub or become damaged.
- Refit the panels and remaining parts removed in reverse order.
- Program the software according to the service information in VIDA.
- Check the function.
