Removing the cylinder head
Special tools:

Removing the cover
Remove the covers at the trailing edge of the camshaft. Use a screwdriver and press in the middle of the cover and pry it off.
Removing the rotor on the camshaft
Note! Clear up any oil spillage using paper.
Remove:
- the screw for the rotor
- the rotor.
Installing the camshaft adjustment tool
Use: 999 5452 CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT TOOL 999 5452 Camshaft Adjustment Tool.
Install:
- the part of the tool that belongs to the exhaust camshaft (drilled hole).
- the gauge belonging to the intake camshaft (threaded hole).
Screw together the gauges to a single unit.
Removing the timing belt pulley / variable valve timing unit
Remove:
- -plug at the front of the variable valve timing unit
Note! Risk of spill under the VVT-unit.
- the center screw in the VVT-unit (variable valve timing unit). Carefully pull out the timing belt pulley and VVT-unit.
- the screws for the timing belt pulley
- the timing belt pulley.
Mark out the screws on the timing belt pulley instead of on the center pin. Remove the belt.
Removal of the camshaft cover
Remove the sparkplugs at cylinder 1 and 5, respectively. Install: 999 5454 PRESS TOOL 999 5454 Press Tool with 2-3 mm clearance to the camshaft cover.
Note! Install the supplied M6-screws in the camshaft cover at cylinder 1 to get support for the tool.
Ensure that the screw in the spark plug well is fully tightened.
Remove all screws that hold the camshaft cover to the cylinder head.
Remove:
- the camshaft cover with: 999 5670 Pliers 999 5670 Pliers at the pry lugs. Begin at cylinder 1 and move back alternately.
- the wing nuts approx. 2 revolutions and repeat the procedure with the pliers.
Remove:
- 999 5454 PRESS TOOL 999 5454 Press Tool.
- the camshaft seals in the leading and trailing edge, respectively
- the camshaft cover
- the camshafts. Wiggle and lift at the same time.
Note! Take care not to damage the axial bearings.
Removing the cylinder head
Remove the O-ring at the leading edge of the cylinder head.
Loosen the cylinder head's bolted joint. Begin at the sides and work alternately towards the middle.
Lift away the cylinder head.
Note! Take care not to damage the mating surfaces.
