Removal

Removing components

Remove:
- the front wheel
- the screw for the wheel hub / drive shaft. Tap the end of the drive shaft approximately 15-20 mm into the wheel hub
- the anti-roll bar strut from the spring strut. Counterhold the ball joint pinion so that the ball joint boot cannot turn.
Detach the brake hose from its mounting lug in the spring strut. Detach the ABS line from its mounting lug in the wheel arch. Slacken off the nut for the ball joint for the control arm.

Disconnecting the ball joint for the control arm

Note! Before removing the nuts from the ball joints, clean the exposed threads of rust. Lubricate using rust solvent before removing the nut.

Ensure that the nut is at the same level as the end of the ball joint.
Use: 951 2945 Puller 951 2945 Puller and remove the ball joint from the wheel spindle.

Removing the drive shaft from the wheel hub

Use: 999 7076 Lever 999 7076 Lever and unhook the control arm from the wheel spindle ball joint. Detach the drive shaft from the wheel hub.
Install the protective sleeve. Use: 999 5562 PROTECTIVE SOCKET 999 5562 Protective Socket on the ball joint. Hold the sleeve in place using the nut.

Turn the drive shaft so that the jimmy bar comes past the joint in towards the transmission. Now turn the drive shaft so that the jimmy bar is supported as well as possible against the constant velocity joint.
Remove the drive shaft from the transmission.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications. Tightening Torque.

Installing the drive shaft in the transmission

Note! Use a new snap ring on the end of the drive shaft.

Caution! Do not pull the drive shaft. The axial pinions cannot support the large load.

Press the drive shaft into the transmission. Check that the snap ring is in the groove in the transmission. Pull the constant velocity joint to check that the drive shaft is secure.

Installing the drive shaft on the wheel hub

Lubricate the drive shaft splines for the wheel hub. Use a small amount of oil. Hold down the control arm as when removing. Align the drive shaft in the hub. Remove the guard from the ball joint. Align the ball joint lug in the wheel spindle.
Tighten all the screws. see Specifications. Tightening Torque.

Install:
- new lock nut for the ball joint, x1
- new lock nut for the stabilizer rod, x1
- new bolt for the drive shaft/wheel hub, x1
- the brake hose to the mounting lug in the spring strut
- the ABS line to the mounting lug in the wheel arch.
