S40, V50 MY04-06 Only - Door Harness Damaged By Window REG.
Door harness damaged by window regulator (S40, V50 MY04-06)S40, V50 MY04-06 ONLY
DESCRIPTION:
The door harness may be chafed due to incorrect routing. It may be pinched between the window regulator retainer and the front door inner plate. The condition may occur on either front door. When the window is operated, the regulator may damage the incorrectly routed harness. See illustration shown above (A) for location of harness damage.
Symptoms caused by the damaged harness include no start conditions, low speed CAN faults/DTCs and door electrical functions inoperative.
Note:
As a temporary solution, rigid foam was added to the harness to prevent it from incorrect installation. This was introduced in production from chassis numbers 159640 (S40) and 158053 (V50) onwards. As final solution, from MY 2007 onwards, stronger tape is used to protect the harness.
Note:
This concern has mainly been seen in MY 2006 cars. Similar concerns may occur in MY 2004 and MY 2005 cars.
MY 2006 Chassis number ranges.
The front door harness may be pinched between (5) retainer and (1) door during assembly.
Area of door harness where damage can be found (B).
Example of damaged harness location (C).The harness should be routed through the bottom of the door and be clear of the window regulator.
SERVICE (S40, V50 MY04-06 ONLY):
Fault trace network faults and DTCs according to VIDA. If low speed CAN faults/DTCs or other door related symptoms are still occurring, take the following steps:
1. For low speed CAN faults, a short circuit in the door harness can be isolated by disconnecting the harness at the door connectors 64/41 or 64/43.
2. To inspect the door harness for damage, the front loudspeaker can be removed. The procedure can be found in VIDA: Information > Repair> Removal, replacement and installation > 3 Electrical system> 39 Media, communication and navigation> Radio equipment> Loudspeaker front side door, replacing
3. Replace the damaged door harness. Information about access to the door harness can be found in VIDA: Information > Repair> Removal, replacement and installation > 8 Body and interior> 83 Doors and lids> Power window mechanism > Window lift mechanism front side door, replacing
4. Ensure the harness clip is installed properly during assembly (see illustration).
5. Replace fuses if necessary.
6. Reassemble the door using instructions in VIDA (taking care not to pinch the harness) and check for proper vehicle function.
7. Clear DTCs.
