Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Removing components




Pull the protective cover (1) on the engine control module (ECM) straight up. Place the protective cover to one side. Fold up the two red striker plates for the engine control module (ECM) connectors. Pull out the wiring.

Removal

Removing the air cleaner (ACL) module





Remove:
- screws for the intake manifold in the front cover plate
- the intake manifold for the air cleaner (ACL) module (1)
- the hose for the mass air flow (MAF) sensor (2). Disconnect the connector for the mass air flow (MAF) sensor
- the brake vacuum hose from the intake manifold
- the brake vacuum hose from the vacuum pump. Move the hoses to one side.
- the tie straps of the cable harness on the air cleaner module
- the screw holding the cable harness and free the cable harness below the air cleaner module.

Installation

Installing the lifting tool




Install lifting beam: 999 7103 Lifting beam 999 7103 Lifting Beam together with hook: 999 5185 HOOK 999 5185 Hook. Tension the tool. Lift the expansion tank and place on the engine.

Note! Ensure that no coolant runs out.

Lift the air cleaner module straight up until it releases from the rubber mountings. Then pull the module toward the left front wing until it can be lifted out.

Installing the air cleaner (ACL) module





Caution! Make sure that all vacuum hose locks are intact and properly fastened.

Hint: Lubricate the mounting hooks on the air cleaner (ACL) module using petroleum jelly or similar.

Hook the cable harness into the air cleaner module before it is inserted in its mountings.

Install:
- the air cleaner module by turning the module down, pulling it toward the right front wing and inserting it in its mountings by pressing it straight down.
- the mass air flow sensor hose (2); tighten the hose clamp
- the intake pipe (1) to the air cleaner module. Plug in the mass air flow sensor connector. Connect the two connectors for the engine control module (ECM), lock with the two red striker plates
- the protective cover over the engine control module (ECM)
- the brake vacuum hoses.
