AFFECTED VEHICLES:
DESCRIPTION:
When diagnosing vibrations or pulsations while braking, attention should be paid to foreign particles in between the rotor and the hub. It is possible that foreign particles enter the space between the rotor and the hub when a service or repair requires removal of one or more of the wheels.
TOOLS:
SERVICE:
When removing the wheels, a brake pedal depressor can be used in order to hold the rotor against the hub which will prevent any foreign particles from entering the space between the rotor and the hub. See photo.
Note!
A particle of as little as 0.017mm (0.0007 in.) can cause runout outside of specifications!
If the vehicle suffers from front wheel brake vibrations first check lateral runout of the front rotor according to VIDA:

If rotor lateral run out is outside of specifications, proceed with measuring the hub lateral runout according to VIDA:

If the hub lateral runout is outside of specifications, replace the hub together with the brake rotor according to VIDA. If the hub lateral run out is within specifications, then replace only the brake rotor according to VIDA. In this case, clean the mating surfaces of the hub and rotor with a wire brush and/or scraper. See VIDA:
If the hub and/or rotor are/is replaced, it is important to recheck the lateral runout of the rotor after the repair is complete according to VI DA. The rotor and hub should be bolted together using wheel bolts during this measurement. The mating surface of the rotor and wheel should also be clean and free of corrosion and foreign material before reinstalling according to VIDA:
