Low pin tension in female terminals (C70 MY06-07)

C70 MY06-07 ONLY

DESCRIPTION:

On C70 cars, some of the female terminals in the A-pillar connector with twisted pair wires connected may have too low pin tension.

Chassis number range

Terminals in the connector positions are involved as shown above.

Customer symptoms may include the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) as shown above.

SERVICE (C70 MY06-07 ONLY):

If any customer symptom is present that may be caused by low pin tension in one of the involved connections, check the pin tension of the female terminals in positions 1, 2, 8, 9, 25 and 26 of both A-pillar connectors as per CHECK METHOD below.

REQUIRED TOOL:

For this check, use male service terminal P/N 30765118 as test tool. This is the male terminal (gold plated) used in the male A-pillar connector.

CHECK METHOD:

^ Disconnect the A-pillar connector.

^ Use male service terminal P/N 30765118 as a test tool. Insert and remove this test tool in each of the involved female terminals (position 1, 2, 8, 9, 25 and 26) and feel while removing the tool if the pin tension is OK. (Compare removing force with other terminals.)

^ If low pin tension is detected in one or more of the female terminals, the affected terminal must be replaced with a female service terminal.

MY 2006 cars (chassis number 009999 or lower):

^ Use tin plated terminal P/N 30656698 for each of the terminals 1, 2, 25 and 26 with too low pin tension.

^ Use gold plated terminal P/N 30772665 for each of the terminals 8 and 9 with too low pin tension.

MY 2007 cars (chassis number 010000 or higher):

^ Use gold plated terminal P/N 30772665 for each of the terminals 1, 2, 8, 9, 25 and 26 with too low pin tension.

NOTES:
^ Perform this check on the A-pillar connector on both sides.

^ The wire repair method is given in VIDA: VIDA> Information > Repair> Removal, Replacement and installation > 3 Electrical system > 37 Cables and fuses > Wiring > Joining cables

^ See Removal of connectors from doors and terminals from connector housings (MY 2006 -->) below for how to remove the connector from the door and terminals from the connectors.

^ Gold plated terminals must not be mixed with tin plated terminals. If this is done, galvanic corrosion may occur. Always make sure mating terminal pairs have the same plating.

^ Scrap the male service terminal after using it to check all involved terminals in one car. If it is used too often, it may damage the female terminals while testing.

^ The terminal P/N 30765118 is a spare part and can be ordered through the parts system according to normal ordering routines. It is not a special tool from SPX.

^ P/N 30765118 and P/N 30772665 are kits containing 5 terminals with crimped wires.

^ P/N 30656698 is a kit containing 20 terminals with crimped wires.

^ If a Stock Order is placed, the number of terminals with crimped wires listed above for the terminal kits P/N 30765118, 30772665 and 30656698 will be delivered. If a Critical Order is placed, only the quantity of terminals ordered will be delivered.
