Checking the components and wiring
- Check knock sensor (KS) connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the signal cable. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Take readings between:
- Engine control module (ECM) #A7 (#A7) and knock sensor #1.
- The engine control module (ECM) #A55 (#A55) and the knock sensor #2.
Check that the knock sensor (KS) is tightened to the correct torque.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Start the engine and run it to normal operating temperature
- Run the engine to 3500 rpm. Read off the value of the knock sensor (KS) signal. The value must be between 2-6.
