Checking the water pump
- Ignition on.
Activate the water pump.
There must be a buzzing sound from the water pump when it is activated.
The fault is permanent if the water pump does not start.
If the water pump starts, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but that it is not active at the moment, i.e. the fault is intermittent.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition on.
Activate the water pump.
Check the hoses in the coolant system. Check for damage and leakage.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition on.
Read off the temperature of the overheat protection thermostat and the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
Note the values for resistance measurement.

- Ignition off
- Disconnect the connector in the heater.
Measure the resistance of the overheat protection thermostat and the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Compare with the resistance value in the component specification.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
Activate the heater.
On activation of the heater sequence, the heater starts up and operates for approximately 2 min 30 s.
Do not interrupt the heater sequence. The heater is switched off automatically after approximately 2 min 30 s.
When the heater sequence is completed the read out of whether or not flames were detected can be made.
Check that the heater starts and is working correctly.
