Checking the status
- Ignition on.
Click the VCT2000 symbol to activate the back-up gear inhibitor.
Check if the fault is permanent or intermittent.
It is not possible to engage back-up gear when the back-up gear inhibitor is activated.
The fault is permanent if the back-up gear inhibitor does not activate.
If the back-up gear inhibitor is activated, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but that it is not active at the moment, i.e. the fault is intermittent.

Checking the component and wiring
Check the voltage on the gear selector module (GSM) connector terminal #1-C13 to the output on the central electronic module (CEM). The voltage must be approximately 12 V when the back-up gear inhibitor is activated.
Check the control signal cable. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Take readings between:
- Central electronic module (CEM) terminal #A39 (#39) and gear selector module (GSM) connector terminal #1-C13.
Remedy as necessary.
