Removal

Removing the exhaust system and propeller shaft
Remove the propeller shaft and the exhaust system. See: Final Drive, Replacing.

Removing the Active on Demand Coupling
Remove the Active on Demand Coupling (AOC). See Active on Demand Coupling (AOC), replacing Service and Repair.

Removing the pinion seal

The seal consists of two parts.
Use extractor 999 7023 Extractor pinion seal Haldex coupling 999 7023 Extractor Pinion Seal Haldex Coupling.

Note! The screw and inner socket in the extractor must be unscrewed when tapping on the extractor.

Tap the tool onto the seal so that the flat end is against the seal. Tighten the inner socket. Counter hold the outer part at the same time so that the tool expands against the seal.
Remove the seals using the screw in the extractor.
Check that no seal residue is left in the final drive.
If the inner section of the seal remains in place, tap in the extractor again and pull out the inner section.

Note! Do not knock in the extractor too hard. This can damage in the extractor, which in turn can scratch the mating surface on the pinion shaft.

Note! Check that no seal residue is left in the final drive.

Installation

Installing the pinion seal

The seal consists of two sections but is installed as one unit.
Lubricate the edge of the seal. Use oil for the (AOC). See: Oil Pump Active On Demand Coupling (AOC), Replacing
Use drift 999 7024 Drift pinion seal Haldex coupling 999 7024 Drift Pinion Seal Haldex Coupling for installation. Position the section of the seal with the largest outer diameter against the drift. Tap in the seal until the head of the drift is against the final drive housing.

Installing the Active on Demand Coupling (AOC)
Install the active on demand coupling (AOC). See: Active on Demand Coupling (AOC), replacing Service and Repair.

Installing the propeller shaft and exhaust system

Refilling the oil in the final drive

Top up and check the oil level in the active on demand coupling (AOC) (the front level plug) and in the final drive (the rear level plug).
Use oils, see: Oil Pump Active On Demand Coupling (AOC), Replacing
Tighten the level plugs according to: Tightening Torque
