Preparations
Remove:
- the wheel
- the anti-roll bar link from the spring strut.
Note! Use a Torx wrench as a counterhold so that the boot is not damaged.
Remove:
- the ABS line from the spring strut.
- The ABS sensor. Hang up the sensor using a piece of wire.
Measure the spring strut position in relation to the wheel spindle before removal
Note! The measurements are taken so that the same camber angle can be obtained when installing.
Measure over the stub axle and spring strut at the upper screw as illustrated. Before measuring clean off any dirt from the measuring surfaces.
Note the measurement.
Removing the spring strut
Remove both the nuts from the screws in the spring strut - wheel spindle.
Remove the two screws for the spring strut wheel spindle.
Secure the wheel spindle with a piece of wire so that it cannot turn outwards when removed from the spring strut.
Remove:
- the three nuts holding the spring strut in the bodywork
- the spring strut.
Removing the shock absorber bearing
Secure the spring strut in a vise.
Remove:
- the nut for the shock absorber bearing. Use socket 999 5467 SOCKET 999 5467 Socket and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
- the washer
- the support.
Removing the spring
Take the load off the spring seat. Use hydraulic tool 951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston with 951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw.
Remove:
- the fixing nut on the shock absorber. Use socket 999 5469 SOCKET 999 5469 Socket and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
- the spring seat
- the spring
- the rubber bump stop and gaiter.
Check that the shock absorber support plate (1), the spring seat (2) and the rubber bump stop with boot (3) are undamaged. Replace if necessary.
Installing the spring
Compress the new spring to a length of approximately 260 mm. Use spring clamps 951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston with 951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw.
Install:
- the bump stop with the boot
- the spring
- the spring seat.
Install the fixing nut. Tighten. See Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use socket 999 5469 SOCKET 999 5469 Socket and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
Remove the spring clamps.
Installing the shock absorber bearing
Install:
- bearing
- washer
- the nut and tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use socket 999 5467 SOCKET 999 5467 Socket and a 3/8" Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
Installing the spring strut
Install the spring strut in the bodywork using new nuts. Tighten. See Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.
Install the spring strut on the stub axle. Use new screws and new nuts.
Adjust the spring strut and stub axle to the measured value. See Procedures
Tighten, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use protractor 951 2050 BEVEL PROTRACTOR 951 2050 Bevel Protractor.
Install:
- the anti-roll bar link to the spring strut. Use a new nut. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Counterhold using a Torx wrench to prevent damage to the boot.
- The ABS sensor. Tighten to 10 Nm.
Note! Ensure that the ABS sensor seat in the stub axle is absolutely clean. Clean the ABS sensor with a soft brush.
Install:
- the ABS sensor cable in the bracket.
- the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Check and adjust the headlights' alignment according to: Headlamps, aligning Adjustments
