Removing the anti-roll bar
Note! The anti-roll bar's bushings and caps are vulcanized to the anti-roll bar and cannot be replaced separately.
Preparation
Only applies to diesel engines:
Remove the engine cover.
Applies only to the T6:
Install lifting eye 999 7018 Lifting lug 999 7018 Lifting Lug on the left side of the engine at the 2 screws.
Lock the lifting lug using the catch.
Installing lifting tools
Install lifting tool 999 5716 Reading off tool 999 5716 Reading Off Tool , modified according to the tool bulletin for version C and lifting hooks 999 5460 Lifting hook 999 5460 Lifting Hook.
Lift the engine to relieve the load on the engine pads.
Removing the right engine mounting
Remove the front wheels.
Slacken off the right lower front part of the fender liner.
Remove:
- the plastic nuts on the fender liner
- the protective plate.
Bend out the fender liner.
Applies only to the T6:
Remove the four vibration damper screws. Counterhold the crankshaft central nut.
Remove the vibration damper.
Remove both screws for the right hand engine mounting (1).
Removing the splash guard under engine
Remove the splash guard under the engine.
Removing the skid plate
Remove the 6 screws.
Lift and slide the splash guard forward.
Remove the protective plate.
Note! The plate's upper mounting has a guide sleeve and therefore it must be lifted slightly so that the panel can be slid forward.
Removing the SIPS member
Remove:
- the four mounting screws
- the brake pipe from the snap fastener on the member
- The SIPS member.
Removing the exhaust mounting
Remove the rubber mountings for the exhaust pipe.
Remove the four nuts and screws holding the steering gear to the sub-frame.
Remove the power steering line from the clips on the sub-frame.
Remove the bracket for the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) from the sub-frame (does not apply to diesel cars).
Remove the heated oxygen sensor's wiring from the right side of the sub-frame (only applies to 6 cylinder engines, not diesel).
Lowering the sub-frame
Position a mobile jack with universal plate 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture at the rear of the sub-frame.
Remove the following on both sides:
- the two screws holding the sub-frame bracket in the body
- the rear screw for the sub-frame with the bracket and washer.
Carefully lower the sub-frame until the clearance A between the sub-frame and the body is 110 mm.
Removing the anti-roll bar
Remove the anti-roll bar on both sides. Use a Torx wrench as a counterhold so that the boot is not damaged.
Remove:
- the screws for the anti-roll bar
- the anti-roll bar.
Installation
Note! To ensure that there is no exhaust leakage, see: Flanged joint, assembling Flanged Joint, Assembling.
Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Specifications.
Installing the anti-roll bar
Remove:
- the anti-roll bar
- the screws for the anti-roll bar. (M10)
- the nut for the anti-roll bar link on both sides. (M12).
Use a Torx wrench as a counterhold so that the gaiter is not damaged.
Installing the sub-frame
Raise the subframe.
Install the sub-frame's four screws together with the sub-frame's brackets and engine heater, if installed.
Use new screws. Lube the screws with oil.
Tighten acc. to: Tightening torque Tightening Torque. First tighten the screws on the sub-frame's left side, then on the right.
Tighten the screws for the brackets M10 with 50 Nm.
Remove the lifting table.
Installing the nuts and screw for the steering gear
Install the four nuts and the screw holding the steering gear. Use new nuts and a new screw. (M10)
Applies to right-hand drive cars:
Install nut (A), holding the lower half of the collision protection. (M10)
Installing the exhaust mounting
Install the rubber mountings for the exhaust pipe.
Hint: Use soap solution to facilitate installing the rubber mountings.
Installing the SIPS member
Install:
- the brake pipe in the snap fastener on the member
- The SIPS member.
- the four screws for the SIPS (side impact protection system) member mounting. (M8).
Installing the skid plate
Move the skid plate up into the bumper wraparound.
Press forwards until the mounting brackets engage in the sub frame.
Install:
- the six screws. (M10)
- the splash guard under the engine. (M8).
Installing the right-hand engine mounting
Install the two screws for the right-hand engine mounting. Use new screws.
Fold the fender liner back into position.
Install:
- the skid plate
- the plastic nuts
- the front wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Applies only to the T6:
Install the four screws for the vibration damper. Use new screws.

Removing lifting tools
Remove:
- lifting tools 999 5716 Reading off tool 999 5716 Reading Off Tool and lifting hooks 999 5460 Lifting hook 999 5460 Lifting Hook.
- lifting eye 999 7018 Lifting lug 999 7018 Lifting Lug.
Finishing
Only applies to diesel engines:
Install the engine cover.
