Bushings link arm, replacing

Special tools:

Preparatory work

Removing link arm
Remove the link arm according to: Control arm front, replacing Control Arm Front, Replacing.

Note! The following method shows the position of the bushings in relation to the link arm.

This method shows work done on left link arm. The placement on the right side is mirror-imaged.

Note! It is very important for the bushings characteristics and service life that they are positioned correctly.

Removal

Removing the front bushing




Place the link arm in a workshop press. Use 999 7211 Drift 999 7211 Drift and 999 7210 Socket 999 7210 Socket.
Press out the bushing.

Note! Pay close attention to the bushing's position in the link arm.

Use 999 7211 Drift 999 7211 Drift and place the bushing in the drift. The side of the bushing's stub axle, that has the smaller of the plane surfaces, shall be facing the screw hole. Install one of the screws for the bushing loosely through the drift's hole.

Align the drifts so that the screw ends up directly opposite casting joint on the link arm.
Use 999 7210 Socket 999 7210 Socket and turn it with the hole centered in the same direction as the screw/casting joint.
Carefully press in the bushing until the threaded hole in the bushing's shaft can be seen through the sleeve's hole.

Installing the front bushing, continued




Transfer the screw and tighten it in so far that the screw's unthreaded part covers the edge on the sleeve's hole.
Press in the bushing until the screw's unthreaded part just touches the hole's upper edge. The bushing is now in the right position.

Removal

Removing the rear bushing




Place the link arm in a workshop press. Use 999 7209 Socket 999 7209 Socket and 999 7051 Drift 999 7051 Drift , and a suitable sleeve.
Press out the bushing.

Note! Pay close attention to the bushing's position in the link arm.

The two slots in the bushing's inner sleeve shall be placed in 75 degrees direction in relation to the longitudinal line, see figure.
Mark up the bushing and link arm with a color marker.

Place the link arm in a workshop press. Use 999 7209 Socket 999 7209 Socket and 999 7051 Drift 999 7051 Drift , and a suitable sleeve.
Press in the bushing so that the distance on the plane between the bushing's inner sleeve and the machined surface on the link arm becomes 40 mm.

Finishing
