Alternator: Service and Repair
Generator (GEN), replacing
Removal
Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Preparatory work
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting
- Remove the auxiliaries belt. See
- Remove the power steering pump. See Power steering pump, replacing Service and Repair
- Disconnect the turbocharger hose from the cooling system. Push the hose to one side.
Removing the generator (GEN)
Remove the screw that runs through the upper mounting.
Remove the lower screws.
- Slacken off the lower screws for the compressor (so that there is some clearance)
- Disconnect the battery positive lead
- Disconnect the connector
- Remove the generator (GEN)
- Turn the generator (GEN) into position
- Pull the generator (GEN) upwards / away.
Installation
Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications [1][2]Specifications.
Installing generator (GEN)
- Position the generator (GEN). Install the screw through the upper mounting. Do not tighten
- Connect the cable and the connector
- Install the lower screws for the generator and upper screws for the compressor
- With AC: Tighten the 2 lower screws for the compressor. M8
- Tighten the 3 screws for the generator (GEN). M8.
Finishing work
Install:
- the turbocharger hose
- the power steering pump. See Power steering pump, replacing Service and Repair
- the auxiliaries belt. See
- the battery negative lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.
Test the function.
