Fuel pipe auxiliary heater, replacing

Preparations
Remove:
- the splash guard under the engine
- the protective panel (see the illustration).
Removing the fuel line for the engine coolant heater
Warning! Protective gloves and protective goggles must be used for the following operations. This is due to the risk of fuel spillage.
Remove:
- the quick-release connector at the rear edge of the sub-frame
- the hose clamp for the heater.
Hint: Use special tool 951 2619 Pliers 951 2619 Pliers (Oetiker pliers) to remove and to fasten the clamps.
Pull the pipe loose from the clip.
Remove:
- the cover over the fuel line by moving the clips to one side (see the illustration).
- the quick-release connector and the hose clamp for the fuel hoses.
Plug the hoses.
Remove:

- the right-hand side panel in the cargo compartment / third row of seats. See Side panel cargo compartment, replacement Side Panel Cargo Compartment, Replacement
- the right-hand section of the air duct to the rear right-hand air vent in the C-post
- the insulation
- the four nuts
- the inspection hatch for the fuel tank unit.
Disconnect the quick-release connector (see the illustration). Pull off the fuel hose.
Installing the fuel line for the engine coolant heater
Install the fuel line.
Connect the fuel line to the fuel pump (FP).
Check that the tilt angle on the fuel pump (FP) is 15°.
Connect the fuel line from the fuel pump (FP) and forward to the sub-frame and fuel line.
Install the fuel line on the clip and the fuel terminals.
Final check
Test run the heater. Check the function of the heater. See Engine coolant heater, test running Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
Check for leakage in the fuel lines and hoses.
Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) have been stored during the repair work.
Screw the inspection hatch for the fuel tank unit into place.
Install:
- the insulation
- the air duct for the vent on the right-hand C-post
- the right-hand side panel in the cargo compartment / third row of seats. See Side panel cargo compartment, replacement Side Panel Cargo Compartment, Replacement
- the rear seats. See Upholstery backrest cushion center (second row), replacing Upholstery Backrest Cushion Center (Second Row), Replacing and Upholstery backrest cushion outer (second row) Upholstery Backrest Cushion Outer (Second Row)
- the protective panel (see the illustration)
- the splash guard under the engine.
