Parking brake cable front, replacing

Preparatory work




If the car has manual adjustment (1), reset the parking brake. See: Parking brake, adjusting Parking Brake, Adjusting.
If the car has a self-adjusting parking brake.
Reassemble and lock the self-adjuster unit for the parking brake. See: Parking brake self-adjustment, resetting, R.H.D Parking Brake Self-Adjustment, Resetting.

Warning! If the car is equipped with an earlier version of the self-adjusting parking brake, continue to the previous method. See: Parking brake cable front, replacing Parking Brake Cable Front, Replacing.

If the car is equipped with a later version manual adjustment of the parking brake, continue according to this method.

Removal

Removing soundproofing panels





Remove:
- the 2 screws
- the soundproofing panel.

Removing the center console
Remove center console. See: Center console, replacing Service and Repair.




Remove the plastic guard (pull straight back).
Slacken off the 2 screws.





Remove:
- plastic guard (pull straight up)
- the 2 screws for the seat
- the amplifier using the 3 screws
- the sill molding
- the carpet.

Removing the parking brake pedal





Remove:
- the 3 screws for the parking brake
- the wiring for the pedal switch
- the disengagement cable for the pedal.

Disconnect the mechanical brake cable at the center console





Remove:
- the rear mechanical cables from the power distributor
- the clips for the mechanical cable casing using long nose pliers. Lift the cable from the bracket.

Removing the mechanical cable for the parking brake pedal





Remove:
- the cable from the cable pulley in the pedal
- the retaining clip
- the outer casing for the cable from the pedal using round-nose pliers.
Pull the mechanical cable backwards at the tunnel. Ensure that the clip for the outer casing at the pedal end does not catch at the heater.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications Tightening Torque.

Installing the front brake cable
Pull the mechanical cable into the center of the tunnel above the insulation.

Note! The mechanical cable for the parking brake pedal must be installed before the power distributor at the tunnel.

Installing the mechanical cable for the parking brake pedal





Note! The wide edge of the spacer washer must be on the right-hand side.

Press the cable into place in the pedal.
Secure the cable using the retaining clip.
Apply low-temperature grease, P/N 1161427-8, to the end piece of the mechanical cable.
Install the end piece of the mechanical cable in the cable pulley in the pedal.

Installing the parking brake pedal





Install:
- the disengagement cable for the pedal
- the wiring for the pedal switch
- the 3 x M8 screws for the parking brake.

Installing the mechanical brake cable in the center console

Install:
- the outer casing for the cable in the console
- the power distributor for the front mechanical brake cable in the two rear mechanical brake cables.

Install:
- the carpet
- the sill molding
- the amplifier with the 3 x M6 screws
- the 4 screws for the seat
- the plastic guards for the 4 screws.

Installing the soundproofing panel

Install:
- the soundproofing panel
- the 2 screws.

Installing the center console
Install the center console. See: Center console, replacing Service and Repair.

Finishing

Adjust the parking brake. See: Parking brake, adjusting Parking Brake, Adjusting.

Note! Activate the parking brake firmly for 10 minutes.

Post-adjust the parking brake
Post-adjust the parking brake if necessary.
