Checking Buttons on the Headset Panel

Checking buttons on the headset panel

Fault-tracing information
If the buttons on the headset panel are not working, it may be because:
- There is an open-circuit in the signal cable between the audio module (AUM) and the headset panel
- There is a short-circuit to supply voltage and ground between the audio module (AUD) and the headset panel
- Oxidation on the terminal pins in the connectors
- Defective headset panel
- Problems with the MOST network
- Defective control module.

Hint: If the buttons for any of the four headset outputs are not working, the fault is probably before the headset panel. Check that the 22-pin connector is connected to the audio module (AUD). Check that the MOST network to which the Audio module (AUD) is connected functions.

Note! This fault-tracing only checks whether there is a short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable between the audio module (AUD) and the buttons for the headset panel. Use this fault-tracing only if no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored in the system and the headset panel buttons are not working.

Select an option:
1. left headset panel
2. right headset panel.

Which headset panel is not functioning?

1 - Checking the cable

2 - Checking the cable

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the cable

- Ignition off
- Disconnect the connector for the left headset panel
- Disconnect the 22-pin connector for the audio module (AUD).

Checking the cable
Check the cable terminals in the female and male sections of the connector. The cable terminals must not be damaged or pressed back.

Checking the cable for the buttons for headset output 1, left-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C15 and headset terminal #10 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C16 and headset terminal #8 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Checking the cable for the buttons for headset output 2, left-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C17 and headset terminal #9 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C15 and headset terminal #10 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition off
- Disconnect the connector for the right headset panel
- Disconnect the 22-pin connector for the audio module (AUD).

Checking the cable
Check the cable terminals in the female and male sections of the connector. The cable terminals must not be damaged or pressed back.

Checking the cable for the buttons for headset output 3, right-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C21 and headset terminal #8 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C20 and headset terminal #10 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Checking the cable for the buttons for headset output 4, right-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C22 and headset terminal #9 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C20 and headset terminal #10 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
Check that the buttons for the headset output function. Check this by pressing the buttons for the next track and the previous track and by changing between the CD/MD and the radio using the SEL button.

Do the buttons function?

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
