Checking the Headset Panel
Checking the headset panel
Fault-tracing information
Hint: Check that the headsets used are functioning.
If there is no sound in the headsets it may be caused by:
- Open-circuit in the signal cable between the audio module (AUM) and the headset
- Oxidation on the terminal pins in the connectors
- Defective headset panel
- Problems with the MOST network
- Defective control module.
Hint: If there is no sound from any of the four headset outputs, the fault is probably before the headset panel. Check that the 22-pin connector is connected to the audio module (AUD). Check that the MOST network to which the Audio module (AUD) is connected functions.
Select an option:
1. left headset panel
2. right headset panel.
Which headset panel is not functioning?
1 - left headset panel
2 - right headset panel
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the cable, left headset panel
Hint: Turn up the volume for the headset output which does not function. If the volume changes the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the 22-pin connector for the audio module (AUD)
- Disconnect the connector for the left headset panel.
Checking the cable
Check that the headset panel connectors are correctly connected. Check the cable terminals. Check for contact resistance, loose connections and oxidation. Check the cable terminals in the female and male sections of the connector. The cable terminals must not be damaged or pressed back
Checking the signal cable to headset output 1, left-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C1 and headset terminal #1 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C2 and headset terminal #3 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C13 and headset terminal #2 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Checking the signal cable to headset output 2, left-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C3 and headset terminal #5 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C4 and headset terminal #7 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C14 and headset terminal #6 in the left C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
If no fault is found, replace the headset panel.

-------------------------------------------------
Checking the cable, right headset panel
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the 22-pin connector for the audio module (AUD)
- Disconnect the connector for the right headset panel.
Hint: Turn up the volume for the headset output which does not function. If the volume changes the fault has been remedied.

Checking the cable to headset output 3, right-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C7 and headset terminal #1 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C8 and headset terminal #3 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C18 and headset terminal #2 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Checking the cable to headset output 4, right-hand headset panel
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C9 and headset terminal #5 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C10 and headset terminal #7 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between audio module (AUD) terminal #C19 and headset terminal #6 in the right C-post. Check for a short-circuit to ground, for a short-circuit to supply and for an open-circuit.
