Checking the component

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnical airbag. This could deploy the airbag.

Caution! Do not touch the terminal pins in the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). There is a risk of static discharge. This could damage the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).








- Check cables and terminals if the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is intermittent. Remedy as necessary and select alternative 1 at the bottom
- If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is permanent, continue with the fault-tracing below
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the connector from driver's airbag stage 3
- Connect a special tool to the connector (to the ignition cable). To carry out this procedure, use special tool 951 1506 Test dummy 951 1506 Test Dummy.

Note! The special tool must be checked and fault-free. If the special tool is faulty, the diagnostic readings will be incorrect. This will make fault-tracing harder.

- Switch on the ignition. Wait 10 seconds.
Read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.
If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) changes status from permanent to intermittent fault, replace the driver's airbag and select alternative 1 at the bottom.
If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is still permanent, select alternative 2 at the bottom.

- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the special tool from the connector
- Disconnect the contact reel connector
- Disconnect the connector from the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).

Check the connectors to the driver's airbag, the contact reel and the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). Check for damage to pins and terminals.
Remedy as necessary.
Check the SRS ignition cables between supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the contact reel connector. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Check the cable between:
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #33 and contact reel connector terminal #5
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #34 and contact reel connector terminal #6.
Remedy as necessary.
Connect the contact reel connector. Check the SRS ignition cables between supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the connector for the driver's airbag stage 3. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Check the cable between:
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #33 and the connector for driver's airbag stage 3 terminal #1
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #34 and the connector for driver's airbag stage 3 terminal #3.
Remedy as necessary.
Connect the special tool to the connector (ignition cable side). To carry out this procedure, use special tool 951 1506 Test dummy 951 1506 Test Dummy.
Check the SRS ignition cable terminals on the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). Check for resistance. The resistance must be infinite.
Take readings between:
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminals #33 and #34.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.




- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Connect the battery negative lead.

Warning! There must not be anyone inside the passenger compartment when the battery is connected.

- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
The fault is no longer present if the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) status is intermittent.
