Transmission Control Module (TCM), replacement

NOTE: The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Information

CAUTION: New software can only be ordered when the control module is installed in the vehicle. The new control module identity is read off when ordering, which is required for ordering the correct software.

CAUTION: Wait for one minute after switching off the ignition. The main relay must have discharged the voltage before the control module may be removed from the vehicle. If the engine cooling fan is running after the ignition has been switched off wait until it has stopped, and then wait for a further minute.

Removing the battery cable

NOTE: Set the gear selector in neutral position.





Disconnect the battery negative lead. See: Battery, disconnecting.

Removal

Removing air filter housing

Remove:





^ the fresh air intake hose
^ the air cleaner (ACL) housing assembly from its connections.

Removing the Transmission Control Module (TCM)





CAUTION: Do not touch the terminal pins on the control module with your fingers. Components in the control module can be damaged by static electricity.

Remove:
^ the connector (1), x1
^ the nut (3), x1
^ the gear selector lever
^ the bolts (2), x3
^ the control module carefully, so that the pins are not damaged.

Installation

NOTE: For tightening torques, see: Specifications.

Installing the Transmission Control Module (TCM)





NOTE: Make sure that the arrows correspond with each other and that the gear selector lever is in the neutral position.

Install:
^ the control module carefully, so that the pins are not damaged
^ the bolts, M8 x3
^ the connector, x1
^ the gear selector lever, 1 x nut. Tighten. See: Summary of tightening torques for specific components (Specifications).

Installing the air cleaner (ACL) housing

Install:





^ the fresh air intake hose
^ the air cleaner (ACL) housing assembly and its connections.

Installing the battery cable
Fit the battery's negative cable in accordance with: Battery, disconnecting.

Finishing

Ordering software
Order the software in accordance with: 8691289.

Checking and calibration
Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) have been stored in the control module during the replacement.
