Removal

Removing the rear section of the exhaust system
Remove the rear section of the exhaust system. See Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.

Removing the propeller shaft
Remove the propeller shaft. See Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.

Removing the anti-roll bar

Remove the holder for the parking brake cable from the cover for the rear axle member and the rear mountings in the heat deflector plate.
Detach the anti-roll bar from the links and the mountings in the rear axle member. Leave the anti-roll bar loosely on the trailing arms.

Removing the cable harness

Remove the cable harness from the control module for the Active on Demand Coupling and clamp.

Removing the final drive housing

Position mobile jack 998 5972 JACK 998 5972 Jack and universal plate 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture against the cover and the AOC (Active on Demand Coupling)/ final drive.
Remove the 8 screws from the cover and the screw from the front bushing on the final drive.
Position thick cloths between the drive shafts and the inner sections on the trailing arms.
Lower the hoist with the cover. Leave the final drive housing hanging from the drive shafts.

Note! Keep the loose washer situated between the top of the front bushing and the rear axle member.

Removing the front bushing from the final drive housing

To achieve the correct position of the bushing when installing. Make a mark directly opposite the cut-out in the edge of the bushing and straight down the side.
Make a mark directly opposite the edge that is formed between the cast surface and the machined surface on the final drive housing, as illustrated.
Position the mark on the bushing directly opposite the mark on the final drive housing.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, Tightening Torque.

Installing the front bushing in the final drive housing

Use puller cylinder 951 2564 Hydraulic tool 951 2564 Hydraulic Tool or 999 5575 PULLER CYLINDER USED WITH HYDRAULIC PUMP -5576 999 5575 Puller Cylinder Used With Hydraulic Pump -5576 and associated pump 999 5576 HYDRAULIC PUMP 999 5576 Hydraulic Pump. Position connecting rod 999 5589 Puller rod bushing replacement M12 L=150 mm 999 5589 Puller Rod Bushing Replacement M12 L=150 mm in the puller cylinder and counterhold 999 7078 Press tool 999 7078 Press Tool against the puller cylinder and final drive housing, turn the counterhold so that the cut-out is facing the radius of the final drive housing and so that it is supported on the surrounding cast surface.
Lubricate the end of the bushing and the outer sleeve using a little petroleum jelly. Position washer 7078-1 with the flat side against the bushing and gently apply the nut for the connecting rod. Turn the bushing to the correct position as above. Press the bushing into place so that the flange on the bushing is against the final drive housing.

Replacing the rear bushings in the final drive housing

Removal
Lift up the final drive housing at the front edge so that it is horizontal.
Use an open wrench as support and tap off the bushing on both sides from the final drive.

Installation
Tap in the new bushings. Use a rubber mallet.

Installing the final drive housing

Note! Position the loose washer between the top of the front bushing and the rear axle member.

Lift the cover up to the final drive housing and rear axle member.
Install the 8 screws and the screw for the front bushing in the final drive.
Lightly tighten the screws alternately.
Then tighten the screws for the cover. Tightening Torque.
Tighten the M12 screw for the front bushing in the final drive housing.

Installing the cable harness

Install the cable harness in the control module for the Active on Demand Coupling and the clamp.

Installing anti-roll bar

Install:
- the anti-roll bar on the mountings in the rear axle member and the links using new lock nuts. Tighten
- the holder for the hand brake cables on the cover for the rear axle member and the mountings for the heat deflector plate.

Installing the propeller shaft
Install the propeller shaft. See Final drive, replacing Final Drive, Replacing.
