Solenoid, back-up (reverse) inhibitor, replacing
Removal
Removing the center console
Remove the center console. See Replacing the parking brake lever Replacing the Parking Brake Lever.
Removing the cable from the gear selector assembly
Move the gear selector to position P. This is to access the cable locking.
Remove the cable locking from the gear selector lever. Use pliers. Pull the locking out of the bushing
Removing the solenoid
Press the connector out to the right out of the gear selector assembly.
Remove the insulation tape around the wiring. Pull the wiring out of the channel at the front edge of the right-hand side of the gear selector assembly.
Pull the striker plate straight up out of the mounting which secures the solenoid.
Carefully pull the solenoid, with its wiring, out of the gear selector assembly. Angle the solenoid and pull the wiring until it cannot come out any further.
Disconnect the tab terminals.
Hint: Check that the positive and negative terminals are in the correct position on the solenoid.
Installation
Installing the solenoid
Connect the tab terminals.
Install the solenoid in the gear selector assembly cut-out. The tab terminals and the cable must be facing down in the gear selector assembly.
Secure the solenoid with the bracket.
Pull up the connector. Press the connector into place in the gear selector assembly.
Put the cable into the cut-out on the gear selector assembly.
Secure the wiring using insulation tape.
Installing the cable on the gear selector assembly
Install the mechanical cable lock onto the bushing on the mechanical cable.
Press the mechanical cable into place on the gear selector assembly.
Note! Check that the mechanical cable is secure.
Function test
Move the gear selector to position P.
Ignition on.
Press the brake pedal and check that the solenoid releases the gear selector lever and other gear positions can be selected.
