4T65 Transmission






Gear selector cables, replacing

Special tools:
999 7077 Jimmy bar 999 7077 Jimmy Bar

Removal

Remove the air cleaner (ACL) housing
Brake pipe master cylinder / ABS unit, replacing Brake Pipe Master Cylinder / ABS Unit, Replacing.

Remove the left front wheel

Remove the center console
See Replacing the parking brake lever Replacing the Parking Brake Lever.

Remove the transmission cable from the bracket and from the lever at the transmission





Remove:
- the ball joint for the gear selector cable from the lever using jimmy bar999 7077 Jimmy bar 999 7077 Jimmy Bar
- the gear selector cable in the bracket. Press the catch using a screwdriver. Pull the transmission cable up
- Remove the gear selector cable from the clips on the side member.
Pry the clips apart.

Remove the gear selector cable





Remove:
- the catch for the gear selector cable on the gear selector
- the gear selector cable from the end of the gear selector assembly. Use a screwdriver
- the mechanical gear selector cable.

Remove the gear selector cable at the firewall





Remove:
- the 2 air ducts
- the 4 screws for the stay in the dashboard
- the 2 nuts for the transmission cable grommet at the firewall
- the gear selector cable by pulling it inwards into the passenger compartment.

Hint: Route the gear selector cable correctly in the engine compartment with someone to assist you.

Installation

Preparations for installation




Bend a heavy welding rod (wire).

Note! When installing the mechanical cable:Ensure that there are no sharp bends or kinks in the cable, especially between the inner cable and outer sleeve.

Hint: Route the cable correctly in the engine compartment with someone to assist you.

Install the gear selector cable from the inside of the passenger compartment




Install the gear selector cable under the heater unit on the left-hand side, down towards the hole.

Note! Be extremely careful when running the rubber bellow for the gear selector cable through the hole in the firewall. The gear selector cable must not be damaged.

Feed the gear selector cable through the hole slightly.

Hint: Route the gear selector cable correctly in the engine compartment with someone to assist you.

Locate the grommet on the studs

Install:
- the nuts. Tighten to 12 Nm
- the air ducts
- the stay and the screws. Tighten to 10 Nm.

Feed the gear selector cable in from the inside




Pull the welding rod (wire) while feeding the cable in from the inside.
The gear selector cable must be routed past the steering gear and up to the transmission bracket.

Position the gear selector cable behind the steering gear




Position the cable behind the steering gear and over the hydraulic pipes.
Secure the gear selector cable in the clips on the side member.

Install the gear selector cable on the gear selector





Install:
- the gear selector cable on the gear selector. Secure the cable using the catch
- the gear selector cable on the end of the gear selector assembly.

Install the gear selector cable on the transmission





Install:
- the ball joint for the gear selector cable on the lever
- the gear selector cable on the lever. Secure it with the catch.

Note! The gear selector cable must be adjusted after replacement. See Gear selector cable, adjusting .
