Cable key interlock, replacing
Removal
Preparations
Remove:
- the centre console. See Replacing the parking brake lever Replacing the Parking Brake Lever
- the steering column covers
- the soundproofing panel.
Disconnect the cable from the ignition switch
Move the gear shift lever to position P.
Turn the ignition key to position I or II.
Depress the lock button and pull the cable out of the ignition switch.
Disconnect the cable from the gear selector assembly
Detach the yellow locking sleeve slightly (use a screwdriver).
Note! The yellow locking sleeve must not be reused. A new locking sleeve must be used at installation.
Lift the cable from the gear selector assembly.
Remove the cable from the steering column
Disconnect the clip from the bracket located by the steering column. Also disconnect the clip located by the climate control system.
Installation
Install the cable
Note! Start installation from the ignition switch.
Route the cable down along the steering wheel bracket and under the climate control system.
Secure the cable in its clips at the bracket and climate control system.
Press the end of the cable into place in the ignition switch. Ensure that the cable locking tabs are securely engaged and locked.
Connect the cable to the gear selector mounting
Route the cable along the gear selector cable to the gear selector assembly.
Connect the cable to the gear selector mounting.
If the guide sleeve on the key interlock wire breaks during removal/installation of the wire to the gear selector assembly, the guide sleeve must be replaced. Refer to: Guide sleeve key lock cable Guide Sleeve Key Lock Cable.

Finishing work
Install:
- the steering shaft covers
- the centre console. See Replacing the parking brake lever Replacing the Parking Brake Lever
- the soundproofing panel.
