Output speed sensor transmission, replacing
Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Caution! Avoid skin contact with the transmission fluid.
Preparatory work
Removing the wheels and components
Remove:
- the left front wheel
- the nut for the holder for the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors.
Unhook the clamp from the stud.
Removal
Removing engine compartment components
Remove:
- the air cleaner (ACL) housing.
- the preheating hose.
Removing the screw holding the bracket for the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S)
Unhook the bracket from the stud on the transmission. Move it to one side.
Separate the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connectors.
Disconnect the connector from the holder on the transmission and the nearest clamp.
Note! New clamps are included with the new sensor.
Removing the sensor
Remove the splash guard under the engine. See Transmission oil / oil filter, replacing Removal and Replacement.
Place a container underneath the transmission.
Press the clamp nearest the sensor up out of its hole. Use a large screwdriver.
Remove:
- the screw holding the sensor
- the sensor.
Remove the remaining clamps.
Installation
Installing the sensor
Lubricate the new sensor's O-ring. Tighten the screw. See Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.
Use a tie strap through the hole to secure the cable instead of the original clamp nearest the sensor.
Slide the cable up. Press the clamp for the sensor cable into place on the transmission.
Install the splashguard under the engine.
Connect the connector. Secure the connector to the holder
Press the remaining clamps onto the cable.
Install:
- the bracket for the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) cable harness. Tighten the screw
- the air cleaner (ACL) housing.
- the preheating hose.
Finishing
Installing and checking components
Install:
- the clamp and nut on the stud for the cable harness bracket for the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
- the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Check the transmission oil level
Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
