Transmission output speed sensor, replacing
Removal
Preparations
Remove:
- the left front wheel
- the nut for the holder for heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors.
Unhook the cable clamp positioned outside the bracket on the stud.
Remove the engine compartment components
Remove:
- the air cleaner (ACL) housing. See Brake pipe master cylinder / ABS unit, replacing Brake Pipe Master Cylinder / ABS Unit, Replacing
- the preheating hose.
Remove the screw holding the bracket to the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S)
Unhook the bracket from the stud on the transmission. Move it to one side.
Separate the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connectors.
Disconnect the connector from the holder on the transmission and the nearest mounting lug.
Note! New mounting lugs are included with the new sensor.
Remove the sensor
Remove the splash guard under the engine. See Transmission oil / oil filter, replacing Removal and Replacement.
Remove the right heat deflector plate screw. Press up the deflector plate slightly so that the sensor is accessible.
Place a container underneath the transmission.
Remove:
- the screw holding the sensor
- the sensor. Slacken off the remaining clamps. Remove the sensor.
Installation
Install the sensor
Lubricate the new sensor's O-ring. Install sensor to transmission. Tighten the screw. Tighten to 10 Nm.
Press the sensor cable retaining clip into place the transmission. Slide the cable up.
Install the splashguard under the engine.
Connect the connector and secure it to the holder
Press the remaining retaining clips onto the cable.
Install:
- the bracket for the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring. Tighten the screw
- the air cleaner (ACL) housing. See Brake pipe master cylinder / ABS unit, replacing Brake Pipe Master Cylinder / ABS Unit, Replacing
- the preheating hose.
Finishing work
Install:
- the clamp, on the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wiring bracket stud, and the nut
- the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Check the transmission oil level
Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
