Removing the anti-roll bar
Note! The anti-roll bar bushings and cap are vulcanized to the anti-roll bar and cannot be replaced separately.
Preparation
- Position the lifting device 999 5716 Reading off tool 999 5716 Reading Off Tool and lifting hooks 999 5460 Lifting hook 999 5460 Lifting Hook.
- Lift up the engine slightly to off-load the engine pads.
Raise the car.
Remove
- the front wheels.
- the protective cover under the engine.
- the four nuts and screws holding the steering gear on the subframe.
- the nut (A), holding the lower half of the collision protection. (Applies to right-hand drive cars.)
- the collision protection over the steering gear (2 screws). (Only applies to right-hand drive cars.)
- the screws holding the exhaust pipe bracket. Loosen the brake pipe from the snap-in clip on the bracket.
- the bracket.
Loosen the oil pipe from the clamps to the steering gear and the fuel pipe to the engine heater where appropriate.
Loosen the canister hose in the joint by pressing together the catches and pulling the hose apart.
- Remove the screw for the rear engine mount.
- Loosen the cable harness from the rear edge of the subframe and disconnect the connectors. (only applies to cars with 6 cylinder engines.)
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor cable harness from its bracket.
- Place a mobile jack with a universal fixture 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture at the rear of the subframe.
- Remove the screws on both sides, holding the subframe bracket on the body.
- Remove the rear screws on the subframe together with the brackets and washers.
- Loosen the front screws on the subframe 10-15 mm.
- Lower the rear edge of the subframe about 90 mm. Make sure the steering gear screws release from the subframe.
Note! Hang the steering gear from hook 999 5045 COMPRESSION HOOK 999 5045 Compression Hook so that the lower steering shaft does not come apart. On right-hand drive cars the hook must be hung from the right-hand side.
Removing the anti-roll bar
Remove
- the anti-roll bar's link from the anti-roll bar on both sides. Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the boot is not damaged.
- the screws holding the anti-roll bar in the sub-frame.
- the anti-roll bar.
Applies to right-hand drive cars.
- Lift the anti-roll bar.
- Remove the collision protection between the steering gear and the subframe.
- Remove the stabilizer bar.

Note! To ensure that there is no exhaust leakage, see: Flanged joint, assembling Service and Repair.
Install
- the anti-roll bar
- the screws holding the anti-roll bar in the subframe. Tighten to 50 Nm.
Applies to right-hand drive cars.
- At the same time position the collision protection between the steering gear and the subframe.
Install
- the anti-roll bar links. Use new nuts. Tighten to 60 Nm. Counterhold with a Torx wrench.
Finishing
- Push up the rear edge of the subframe. Use a mobile jack with universal fixture 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture.
- At the same time locate the screws in the frame for the steering gear and, on the right-hand drive cars, the screws for the collision protection.
- Install the subframe brackets together with the washers loosely.
- Install the rear screws in the subframe. Use new screws. Oil the screws. Do not tighten yet.
- Move the mobile jack to the front edge of the subframe.
- Replace and oil the front screws on the subframe.
- First tighten the screws on the left of the subframe with 105 Nm and angle tighten to 120°. Now tighten the right-hand side using the same values as on the left-hand side.
- Finally tighten the screws for the brackets on both sides to 50 Nm.
- Remove the mobile jack.
Install
- the four nuts and screws holding the steering gear. Use new nuts and new screws. Tighten to 50 Nm.
- the nut (A), holding the lower half of the collision protection. (Applies to right-drive cars). Tighten to 50 Nm.
- the oil pipe on the clamps to the steering gear and the fuel pipe to the engine heater where appropriate.
- Assemble the canister hose.
Install
- the screw for the rear engine mounting. Tighten to 50 Nm.
- cable harness at the rear of the subframe and connect the connectors. (Applies to cars with 6 cylinder engines.)
- the heated oxygen sensor cable harness in its bracket.
- the brake pipe on the exhaust pipe bracket.
- the exhaust pipe bracket. Tighten the bracket screws to 25 Nm.
- the collision protection above the steering gear. (Applies to right-hand drive cars.) Tighten to 80 Nm.
- the protective cover under the engine
Lower the car.
Remove the lifting tools.
Install the wheels. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
