Steering-Column Lock Replacement






Steering-column lock replacement

Removal of steering-column lock

Preparations
- Lower the lever for adjustment of steering wheel position and pull up the steering wheel to its highest position.

Removal of steering column covers




- Remove the ignition key (1).
- Remove the three screws (2).
- Press in the snap-in fixings and remove the lower steering column cover (3).
- Turn up the upper steering column cover (4).

Removal of steering-column lock module




- Disconnect connectors.
- Press in the snap-in attachment and remove the steering-column lock module.

Removal of wire for key lock (automatic transmission only)





Applies to cars with automatic transmission:
- Remove the wire for the key lock.
- Set the ignition key in position I.
- Press up the striker plate and pull out the wire.

Removal of steering-column lock




- Drill out the security screws, which hold the steering-column lock.
- Remove the steering-column lock.

Installation of steering-column lock

Installation of the steering-column lock




- Insert the ignition key in the new steering-column lock.
- Check that the key is in position I and that the lock lug on the steering-column lock is down.
- Install the new steering-column lock against the cap on the steering column.
- Install new security screws.
- Tighten the security screws until screw heads break off.

Installation of wire for key lock (automatic transmission only)





Applies to cars with automatic transmission:
- Put the gear lever into position P.
- Set the ignition key in position I.
- Press in the wire in the ignition lock and feel to ensure that it is firmly fastened.
- Remove the ignition key and check that the gear lever is blocked in position P.

Installation of steering-column lock module




- Remove the ignition key.

Install
- connectors
- steering-column lock module

Installation of steering column covers




- Install the lower steering column cover.

Note! Ensure that no wires become jammed.

- Install the screws for the lower steering column cover.
- Fold down the upper steering column cover and press tight its snap-in attachments into the lower steering column cover.

Note! Ensure that the gaiters around the control levers are correctly positioned against the column covers.

Follow-on work
- Adjust the position of the steering wheel and close the locking device for adjustment of the steering wheel position.

Ordering software/key

Note! To install the key, the key and the software must be ordered. To erase the key, only the software needs to be ordered.

Order the key and/or software as described in 9438428.

Programming the key in the control unit

Note! If the key and/or software are accessible, programming/erasing can be done.

If a new key has been installed, check the function.
Use VIDA vehicle communication to check that no diagnostic trouble codes have been stored during the work.

Doing a function check
- Test-start the engine.
