Positive battery cable, new routing

Preparation

Caution! Read off and note any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before disconnecting the negative cable from the battery.

Removing the battery cable





Caution! Disconnect the battery negative cable. Never remove the positive cable in the engine compartment.

- If the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights:
Read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for the engine management system.
If necessary, remedy any faults before disconnecting the negative cable from the battery.
- When the ignition has been switched off, wait at least five minutes before disconnecting battery.
This is so that the there is sufficient time for information to be stored in the control modules.

Disconnect the battery negative cable





Caution! Remove the key from the ignition switch.

Warning! The battery negative cable must not come into contact with the battery negative terminal at any time during the work.

Caution! Do not close the trunk lid while the battery is disconnected. Ensure trunk lid is secured in the open position.

Remove:
- The floor hatch.
- The two nuts for the bracket.
- Slacken off the screw for the bracket a few turns.
- The bracket.
- The cover.
- The battery negative cable.

- Remove the clamp (1)
- Make a note of the position of the tie strap (2).
Remove the tie strap.
- Pull the battery positive cable (3) forward.




- Position the battery cable (1) as illustrated
- Install the new clamp (2). Secure the battery cable to the cable for the injectors
Remove the tie strap.
- Install the new tie strap (3) in the same position as it was earlier.

Note! Before removing the battery cables on the solenoid make a note of the angle and position of the cables on the solenoid.

Remove:
- The nut (1).
- The battery cable (2) and the alternator cable (3) from the starter motor.




Loosen the screw a few turns so that the clamp can move freely.




- Remove the existing holder from the battery cable.
- Pull the battery cable forward. Position the battery cable as illustrated.
- Install the holder on the battery cable (1) and the cable for the injectors (2) as illustrated.





Caution! Make sure that the cable is laid correctly to prevent chafing.

Tighten the screw.





Note! Ensure that the angle and position of the battery cables are the same as before they were removed.

Install:
- The battery cable (2) and the alternator cable (3) on the starter motor.
- Tighten the nut to 10 NM (7.4 lbf.ft).

Installation





Caution! Prior to connecting the battery negative cable, ensure ignition switch is in position two (II).

Warning! The ignition must be in position II during installation.Then reconnect the battery negative cable. Ensure that no one is sitting in the car when the battery is being connected.

Engine
- If the battery has been disconnected, it may be necessary to drive the car for a few minutes to ensure correct operation.

Fan
- If the car is equipped with Manual (MCC) or Standard climate control, the blower fan speed must be recalibrated if the battery has been disconnected.
- Ignition on.
- Turn the blower fan switch to maximum.
- Turn the blower fan switch to minimum.

Sun roof
- The sun roof must be closed.
- Press the sun roof switch so that the sun roof is in the tilt position.
- Release the switch.
- Press the button again for at least five seconds.
- Release the switch.
The calibration is complete.

Reconnect the battery negative cable





Install:
- The battery negative cable.
- The cover.
- The bracket.

Note! Start the engine and idle it for 3 minutes. Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored.

Cars from chassis number029668 - :
Unlock the car with the remote control in order to activate certain functions in Upper Electronic Module UEM) and Interior light.
Reset clock.
Verify the repair.
