Checking Remote Start of the Parking Heater
Checking remote start of the parking heater
Fault-tracing information
Remote starting of the parking heater is activated using a remote control. The reason for the parking heater not starting with the remote control maybe due to other causes, for example unfavorable radio wave conditions between the remote control and the remote start unit.
Other causes of non-function may be:
- low battery voltage in the remote control
- no synchronization of the remote control after the remote start unit has been without power
- defective remote control
- defective remote start unit.
Note! If the remote start unit has been without power, the remote control must be synchronized before it can transmit signals to the remote start unit. See the user manual for information about correct synchronization.

-------------------------------------------------
Activating the parking heater
- Ignition on.
To check that the remote start unit is functioning, the parking heater can be activated using the diagnostic function via the accessory electronic module (AEM). Click the VCT2000 symbol to activate the parking heater.
Did the parking heater activate?
Yes - Checking the batteries in the remote control
No - Checking wiring and terminals
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the batteries in the remote control
Check that the batteries in the remote control have sufficient power.
Are the batteries in the remote control OK?
Yes - Remote control
No - Replacing the batteries in the remote control
-------------------------------------------------
Remote control
A switch / bulb is connected to the remote start unit. During activation using the remote control, the bulb lights to indicate that the remote start unit has been activated.
Activate the parking heater using the remote control. At the same time, check that the lamp for the remote start unit lights.
Is the lamp on after activation?
Yes - Checking wiring or terminals
No - Activating the heater
-------------------------------------------------
Checking wiring or terminals
Communication between the remote control and the remote start unit is OK. Fault-tracing indicates that the wiring or terminals between the remote start unit and the accessory electronic module (AEM) are defective.
Remedy as necessary.

-------------------------------------------------
Activating the heater
Press the switch / lamp. This must activate the parking heater directly from the remote start unit.
If the heater does not activate, the fault-tracing indicates that the radio receiver unit is defective.
If the heater activates after the lamp is pressed, the fault-tracing indicates that the remote control is defective.
Remedy as necessary. (Check that the switch / lamp is correctly connected to the remote start unit.).

-------------------------------------------------
Checking wiring and terminals
Check the wiring and connector connected to the remote start unit. Check the wiring and connector which is connected to the accessory electronic module (AEM). See below. Remedy as necessary.
Check the wiring and connector for the parking heater relay (if applicable). Remedy as necessary.

Were the wiring and terminals OK?
Yes - Replacing the remote start unit
No - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing the remote start unit
Fault-tracing indicates that the remote start unit is defective.
Note! Ensure that the accessory electronic module (AEM) is functioning before taking any other action. If the fault seems to be in the control module, refer to other fault-tracing for the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM). Also check that the parking heater is functioning be activating it by other means than via remote start. If the fault seems to be in the parking heater, refer to other fault-tracing for the parking heater.
Continue - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Verification
Fault-tracing is complete and the defective component should have been identified and remedied. Verify the fault-tracing by activating the remote start unit using the remote control.
Is the remote start unit working?
Yes - Procedure complete
No - Information
-------------------------------------------------
Information
Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes - Exit Fault-Tracing
