Checking the Headsets. Rear Seat Entertainment, Generation 3.1/3.2

Checking the headsets

Fault-tracing information
If the headsets do not function the fault could be due to:
- The headsets (Infra-red receiver in the headsets)
- Damaged IR-transmitter/parcel shelf.
- Cable harness between control module rear sound separation and IR-transmitter/parcel shelf.

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the headsets

Checking the settings
Check that the volume has not been turned down via VOLUME on the remote control or that the volume on the relevant headset has not been turned down.
Check that sound source exists for selected headphone channel and that headphones are on.
Check that it is only the headsets that do not function. In the event of the rear audio separation (RAS) control module not functioning the rear loudspeakers do not function either.

Checking the infra-red sensor/parcel shelf and infra-red receiver/headsets
Check that the infra-red sensor, positioned on the parcel shelf, is not obstructed.
Also check that the receiver in the headsets is not obstructed.

Hint: In certain cases moisture can impair infra-red signal reception.

Checking the settings
Check that the headsets have been selected in the menu system.
Check that the correct channel has been selected. Check that the volume has been turned up.

Checking the headsets
Check the headset batteries.
Check if the other headphones work. If this is the case, it is likely that the headphones are damaged.

Checking the IR transmitter
Check that the IR-transmitter, on the parcel shelf, is not concealed or damaged. When the IR-transmitter is active a weak glow shall be seen from the transmitter's diodes.

Checking cables to IR-transmitter
Check the connector on the rear audio separation (RAS) control module terminal #B.
Check the wiring between the infra-red sensor/parcel shelf terminals #1-4 and the rear audio separation (RAS) control module terminals #B1 to #B4.

Hint: terminal #B1 is for the power supply and terminal #B4 is ground. The infra-red signal is transmitted between #B2 and #B3.

If no malfunction is found on the cables, try replacing the IR-transmitter.
Remedy as necessary.
